Veteran playmaker confirms departure.
Check in to Australia vs Spain
Barcelona legend Xavi looks to have confirmed his departure from the Nou Camp this summer, with Marca reporting that he has sent farewell messages to his club team-mates.
The 34-year-old has long been linked with a move away from Barca this summer, despite having spent his entire career so far with the club, helping them through one of the most successful periods of their history.
With his ability to dictate play and pick out his team-mates, Xavi has become regarded as one of the finest midfield playmakers of his generation, and has an impressive trophy haul to his name to match his individual performances, winning a total of seven La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies with Barcelona, as well as two European Championships and one World Cup at international level with Spain.
A move to the MLS or Qatar now seems to be on the cards for the midfielder, whose departure will be the latest in a series of blows for the Catalan giants after Carles Puyol’s retirement and Victor Valdes’ decision to run down his contract.
With so many senior players leaving at once, Andres Iniesta now looks the next in line to become club captain, with Xavi often skippering the side in the absence of Puyol.
