How Liverpool Can Spend £100m Luis Suarez Sale Cash On Five Players and Become a Better Side

Anfield side could benefit from the sale of Uruguayan, but only if they invest well.

It may be a worst-case scenario Liverpool fans dread but could the Anfield side actually benefit in the long run from the sale of goal machine Luis Suarez?

Some reports suggest that the Merseyside outfit would ‘reluctantly’ accept £100m for the 27 year old and if they did, here’s an outline of how they could best use those funds to improve a number of areas of Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

Indeed these five talents can be purchased by the Premier League side and still leave £3m left in the kitty.

Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea) £32m

Clearly if Suarez leaves then there will be a massive void up front to fill and one that frankly Southampton veteran Rickie Lambert isn’t qualified to occupy.

Therefore Rodgers should look to not only adhere to his youthful transfer policy but also attempt to sign a player with the credentials to bag 20-25 Premier League goals a season. The man for the job? Romelu Lukaku.

The 21 year old is a player who doesn’t appear to have the backing of Blues boss Jose Mourinho, why else would he choose to loan out the powerful forward to leave him with ineffective options that essentially cost the west London side any hope of significant honours in 2013/14.

There is simply no denying Lukaku’s potential to be a feared striker of the highest quality.

The former Anderlecht man bagged 17 top tier goals during his season on loan at West Brom and scored 15 for Everton in 29 starts in last term so in a team as attack minded as Liverpool you’d have to think that alongside Daniel Sturridge, and with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling providing the ammunition, Lukaku would have a field day!

Alberto Moreno (Sevilla) £20m

Brendan Rodgers is right to pursue Spanish international Moreno as a long term replacement for injured and ineffective first choice starter Jose Enrique but currently the Liverpool boss is not keen on meeting Sevilla’s £20m asking price.

Funds from a Suarez sale would clearly make such an option more amenable and the 21 year old once again ticks the ‘youthful transfer policy’ and ‘immediate impact’ boxes with some aplomb.

Such a move would leave Rodgers free to move John Flanagan to his preferred position on the right, where he is superior to inconsistent regular Glen Johnson.

Moreno had a fine season last term, helping Sevilla to a Europa League triumph and only just missing out on a spot in Vicente del Bosque’s 2014 World Cup finals squad.

Victor Valdes (Unattached) Free

Simon Mignolet dropped a few clangers last season and frankly Aussie Brad Jones isn’t a good enough candidate to challenge the Belgian for a starting spot.

So why not then offer experienced Spaniard Valdes a competitive contract that could persuade the former Barcelona man to consider a Premier League switch.

The 32 year old is a more accomplished performer to Mignolet by some distance and is available for absolutely nothing, leaving the way clear to a lucrative wage deal for the three time Champions League winner.

Dejan Lovren (Southampton) £15m

Liverpool conceded far too many goals in 2013/14 and that’s down to no one effectively partnering no-nonsense Slovakian Martin Skrtel.

So what better way to resolve the problem than to bring in another no-nonsense competitor?

Croatian Lovren had a superb debut season in the Premier League and with Mauricio Pochettino leaving St Mary’s there is perhaps every chance that the 24 year old former Lyon man could do likewise.

The carrot of Champions League football is sure to entice the World Cup star and Lovren is superior to France’s Mamadou Sakho and veteran Kolo Toure whilst Daniel Agger isn’t half the player he once was.

Adam Lallana (Southampton) £30m

Liverpool have failed in prevous bids for the 26 year old but buoyed by a huge cash injection Brendan Rodgers could finally nab his long term target.

The cultured midfielder could well be a long term replacement for veteran skipper Steven Gerrard and is a player who’s Premier League ability was more than proven last season.

Lallana can play in either a central or wide midfield role and that adaptability could be key to improving Liverpool’s strength in depth across a number of roles.
