Arsenal & Manchester United Targets Feature Among Top Five Full-Backs At The 2014 World Cup

The finest full-backs that have been on display at the tournament in Brazil.

The 2014 World Cup seems to have been all about the return of the wing-backs, with Netherlands, Mexico and Costa Rica using it to particularly good effect.

So CaughtOffside thought to would be the ideal opportunity to pick out the best full-backs on display so far at the tournament in Brazil.

5. Daley Blind, Netherlands

It’s been a little inconsistent for this Ajax star, who announced himself in South America with a fine performance against Spain, before a more subdued game v Australia.

However, with the ability to also play in defensive midfield it’s little wonder that both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in the versatile Blind.

4. Fabian Johnson, USA

With Jurgen Klinsmann at the helm many are predicting the Americans will do well at the competition, especially after beating Ghana in their Group G opener and next opponents Portugal looking short of form.

In that 2-1 win against the Africans this right-back was a superb attacking threat and played a big part in their success – although may need to watch his defensive duties when up against the Portuguese and Germany.

3. Juan Carlos Paredes, Ecuador

Although considered to be the weakest of the six South American teams on show at the World Cup, the Ecuadorians have shown they are no pushovers thus far.

After narrowly losing to Switzerland in their opener they bounced back with a victory over Honduras and this right-back played a big part in that.

2. Serge Aurier, Ivory Coast

At 21-years-old this Toulouse defender is showing just what he is capable of after making the Ligue 1 Team of the Year for his performances in 2013/14.

Aurier has shown his ability in both defence and attack and Arsenal are thought to be extremely interested in signing the Ivorian.

1. Mauricio Isla, Chile

To many the Chileans have looked like the strongest team so far in the tournament, with confident wins over Australia and reigning champions Spain.

Although there have been many fine individual displays from the South Americans this Juventus star has been up there with the best.
