Here’s five stars who’ve excelled at this summer’s World Cup so far, who we reckon would hugely improve the Arsenal squad if Arsene Wenger acted on his side’s reported interest…

5) Antoine Griezmann – France

PSG lead the chase for Griezmann, but Arsenal are similarly interested in the £25m rated superstar. The 23-year-old scored 16 La Liga goals for Real Sociedad last term, proving that he can cut in from the left and shoot on goal with devastating effect. He starred in France’s opening 3-0 World Cup win over Honduras, and is currently one of the most sought after young attackers in Europe. Arsene Wenger has developed many talented young Frenchman into world beaters, and Griezmann could be the next.

4) Mario Balotelli – Italy

The maverick forward put England to the sword in the World Cup opener, and if reports are to be believed, Arsene Wenger has already met Balotelli’s agent to discuss a £25m transfer from AC Milan. The 23-year-old would provide Arsenal with firepower, and at his best, a truly world-class attacker. Whether he can temper his raw on-pitch emotion, which makes him a target for the opposition, is another matter.

3) Serge Aurier – Ivory Coast

The young fullback is the man expected to replace Bacary Sagna on the right of Arsenal’s back four. He assisted two goals in Ivory Coast’s opening 2-0 victory over Japan, and could finalise an £8m move to the Emirates after the World Cup.

2) Guillermo Ochoa – Mexico

Liverpool are also interested, but Ochoa could be the perfect bargain signing for Arsenal to replace Swansea bound Lukasz Fabianski. His performance against Brazil, where he made a wonder-save from Neymar, proves he has more than enough ability to sit on Arsenal’s bench, and possibly even challenge Wojciech Szczesny for a starting spot.

1) Karim Benzema – France

Benzema’s proving at this World Cup that he’s truly, truly world class. Due to Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid, he perhaps doesn’t get the plaudits his talents deserve at club level, but has already fired home three goals for France – playing alongside current Arsenal man Olivier Giroud against Switzerland. The striker is reportedly demanding huge wages at the Bernabeu, and the Gunners would be no doubt keen to take advantage.
