Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is set to anger his former club Swansea by beating them to the punch for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who is available on a free transfer.

The French ace is now free to negotiate himself a move to the Premier League after running down his contract with French giants Lyon and had originally thought to be on his way to either Newcastle or Swansea.

The Welsh side had looked close to winning the race, but the Reds are now set to swoop in and secure his signature before the Swans get the chance.

Brendan Rodgers has identified the 28-year-old as the ideal man to bulk up his attack in the wake of a return to the Champions League, and the fact that he is available for nothing has meant that he can boost his squad elsewhere.
