Perhaps partly because the World Cup is being held in Brazil, a number of South Americans have performed brilliantly so far during this year’s exciting tournament.

As a result, various Premier League giants are chasing their signatures, and could make large bids for their services on the tournament’s conclusion.

Here’s five of the most exciting stars who could be heading for English shores before 2014/15 commences…

1) Alexis Sanchez – Chile

Sanchez is repeatedly being linked to Liverpool, although Juventus, and fellow Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United are also paying him attention. The Barcelona ace is a wonderful dribbler, and scored over 20 goals for his club last term despite not being considered an automatic starter.

2) Enner Valencia – Ecuador

One of the star players from this World Cup so far, Valencia has scored three goals for the South Americans, and is now being targeted by the likes of Spurs, Newcastle and Everton.

3) Juan Cuadrado – Colombia

The Fiorentina man is rated at £28m, and is reportedly set for talks with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Premier League side Arsenal. The Gunners will do well to convince the Colombian to join ahead of the European behemoths.

2) Angel di Maria – Argentina

The Man of the Match in the Champions League final last term, di Maria has also started for Argentina at the World Cup this summer. His future is totally undecided, but he’s claimed he won’t listen to any offers until after the World Cup. Manchester United and Manchester City could battle for his highly coveted signature.

1) Edinson Cavani – Uruguay

The PSG hitman played up rumours of a potential switch to Manchester United recently, declaring that anything is possible in football.

“I football you never know – anything can happen. One day you’re in one team and then the next day you can be in another,” he said.

Cavani would add brute strength and superb finishing to Louis van Gaal’s 2014/15 side, although it will be difficult to keep Cavani, van Persie and Rooney all happy at the same time.
