The Dozen Players Tottenham Boss Mauricio Pochettino Should Sell This Summer

Twelve players the incoming White Hart Lane manager should offload.

Incoming White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino will be charged with the task of securing a coveted top four finish next season, with failure to do so more than likely to result in a potential sacking, and with that in mind the former Southampton man may do well to clear away a pile of deadwood left by former managers Tim Sherwood and Andre Villas-Boas.

Chairman Daniel Levy handed £110m to Villas-Boas to invest in the Tottenham squad last summer and the north London side actually fell further behind in the race for a Champions League berth and as such he may not be so keen to splash the cash again.

All the more reason then for Pochettino to take a flamethrower to the aforementioned deadwood to help fund moves to bring in more able additions, here are 12 players he may want to consider selling.

Roberto Soldado

Cost £26m but scored just six goals in 28 Premier League appearances and that goal-scoring record is all the more unacceptable when you consider four of those were from the penalty-spot.

Has wholly failed to adjust to life in the Premier League and has looked out of his depth and off the pace, thankfully Emmanuel Adebayor picked up the goal-scoring baton in the second half of the campaign.

The Spaniard should be sold immediately, even at a loss.

Erik Lamela

Yes he struggled with fitness but when available the Argentine looked a shadow of the player who impressed at AS Roma, netting just one goal in 17 appearances in all competitions.

Once again Tottenham would have to sell at a loss, as no side is likely to meet the £30m Spurs forked out for the youngster, but again it’s a loss the White Hart Lane side should be prepared to make in order to bring in more effective options.

Lewis Holtby

Cultured midfielder but a player who hasn’t proven himself on a consistent enough basis. Did well out on loan at Fulham and that could aid a move away, perhaps back to the Bundesliga, and could net Tottenham a decent sum that can be then be more better used.

Etienne Capoue

One of a batch of tough tackling defensive midfielders at the club and arguably the least able of the bunch and a thoroughly salable asset. Former Toulouse man failed to re-create his Ligue 1 displays in the English top tier and made just eight Premier League appearances following his £9m move to White Hart Lane.

Kyle Naughton

Guilty of some truly awful defensive lapses the 25 year old has spent five years trying to prove himself at Tottenham and now is the time to say goodbye to the club’s second best player named ‘Kyle’. A Championship move beckons…

Andros Townsend

For a month or so of last season the winger was the best thing since sliced bread, for both club and country, however he soon went stale. The one footed player was then ‘found out’ by the opposition and his one-dimensional approach has been figured out, time to sell the 22 year old.

Nacer Chadli

Solid if not spectacular, the Belgian did show touches of class, and his one Tottenham Premier League goal was a stunner, but on the whole it’s been £7m poorly spent. 26 year old isn’t good enough for a side with top four aspirations.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Icelandic international would have hoped that Gareth Bale’s sale would have increased his chances to impress but that hasn’t really proven the case. No lack of effort from the former Hoffenheim man just doesn’t really produce enough to warrant a regular first team spot and as such it would be best for all concerned if he was sold.

Jake Livermore

Decent young player who is on his way to Hull City, which is perhaps a more fitting location for the mildly talented tough tackling defensively minded midfielder.

Sandro

The Brazilian was once the talk of the town but he hasn’t gotten back to his best since suffering persistent knee injury concerns. A player who’s sale could still bank Tottenham a decent sum but the longer Spurs hold out the less they’ll receive. Sell this summer!

Danny Rose

The Tottenham left-back slot is notoriously a ‘problem’ area for the north London club, has the 23 year old managed to resolve that very ‘problem’. In a word. No.

Very attack minded but not all that solid in defence, speedy but error prone. In short, not good enough.

Aaron Lennon

For years the £1m Tottenham invested in the England winger was considered one of the bargain buys of the century but season after average season now makes us wonder if that’s any longer the case.

Lennon is a terrible crossed of the ball and one goal in 26 Premier League fixtures last season tells you all you need to know about his ability when bearing down on goal!
