Liverpool And Manchester United Feature Among The Top-Scoring Clubs At The 2014 World Cup

The sides that can boast the most goals at the tournament so far.

With the 2014 World Cup in Brazil really starting to take shape now CaughtOffside has taken the opportunity to find out which club sides are benefiting the most currently.

So here are the teams which had the highest number of scorers so far in the tournament.

5=. Wolfsburg – three goals

Scorers: Ivan Perisic, Croatia – two goals. Ivica Olic, Croatia – one goal.

It’s an all Croatian affair for the Bundesliga club, although there will be no more coming from the nation following their elimination from Group A on Monday.

5=. PSV Eindhoven – three goals

Scorers: Memphis Depay, Netherlands – two goals. Bryan Ruiz, Costa Rica – one goal.

One of the emerging talents of the competition so far has been PSV’s 20-year-old forward Depay, who has scored twice after coming off the bench, whilst although technically a Fulham player, Ruiz spent last season on-loan with the Dutch club.

5=. Pachuca – three goals

Scorer: Enner Valencia, Ecuador – three goals.

Many thought the Ecuadorians would be the weakest South American side at the tournament, but after narrowly losing to Switzerland in their opener, bounced back with victory over Honduras and so far Valencia has all of their goals.

5=. Olympique Marseille – three goals

Scorers: Andre Ayew, Ghana – two goals. Mathieu Valbuena, France – one goal.

The Ghanaians still have a slim chance of qualification if they beat Portugal in their final Group G match on Thursday thanks to winger Ayew and his attacking performances, whilst Valbuena has been a key part of the Les Bleus’ success.

5=. Liverpool – three goals

Scorers: Luis Suarez, Uruguay – two goals. Daniel Sturridge, England – one goal.

It’s an all Group D affair for the Reds, with their lethal ‘SAS’ partnership of the 2013/14 campaign having taken their scoring form to the World Cup, although whilst Sturridge’s side are already out Suarez could maybe inspire the Uruguayans to progress.

4. Real Madrid – four goals

Scorers: Karim Benzema, France – three goals. Xabi Alonso, Spain – one goal.

With Franck Ribery ruled out of the competition with a back injury, the attacking pressure in the French side has fallen on Benzema – who has not disappointed thus far by scoring three goals. Meanwhile Alonso netted in the 5-1 defeat to Netherlands.

3. FC Barcelona – seven goals

Scorers: Neymar, Brazil – four goals. Lionel Messi, Argentina – two goals. Alexis Sanchez, Chile – one goal.

It looks as if the Catalans have a formidable attack when looking at these statistics, with Neymar the pick of the bunch and is currently top-scorer at the World Cup being hosted by his nation.

2. Manchester United – eight goals

Scorers: Robin van Persie, Netherlands – three goals. Marouane Fellaini, Belgium – one goal. Javier Hernandez, Mexico – one goal. Juan Mata, Spain – one goal. Nani, Portugal – one goal. Wayne Rooney, England – one goal.

Other than van Persie – who’s Dutch side led by new United manager Louis van Gaal are showing early signs of being champions – things are evenly spread among Red Devils players, showing there is perhaps some talent in their squad after all.

1. Bayern Munich – nine goals

Scorers: Thomas Muller, Germany – three goals. Arjen Robben, Netherlands – three goals. Mario Mandzukic, Croatia – two goals. Mario Goetze, Germany – one goal.

The reigning Bundesliga champions have a number of their stars featuring at the World Cup and both Muller and Robben have been particularly impressive at this early stage of the tournament.
