Man United Plot Stunning £125m Spree With Six Top Talents On Old Trafford Radar

Old Trafford side look to bring in many new signings as part of major squad overhaul.

Louis van Gaal will be looking to conduct something of a Man United squad re-shuffle when he takes over at Old Trafford following his World Cup exploits and it appears the veteran manager will be handed significant funds to do so.

The Daily Express has identified six players who could be on their way to Man United this summer, following Ander Herrera who is reportedly set to be unveiled as the first signing of van Gaal’s Man United reign.

Alexis Sanchez (Barcelona)

Though Man United have a fair few attacking options they could well do with improving their contingent of wingers and this source believes that Chilean Sanchez is on the Old Trafford side’s wish-list.

Though often used in a central role by both club and country it may well be van Gaal’s plan to use the former Udinese man out wide, where he would clearly be a big improvement on the likes of Nani, Ashley Young and Luis Antonio Valencia.

Sanchez may well be set for a Nou Camp exit though he did put in his best campaign to date last season, netting 19 goals in 27 La Liga starts before putting in a good run of form at the World Cup.

Luke Shaw (Southampton)

Man United need a long term replacement for Patrice Evra, who may or may not be leaving the club this summer, and the Daily Star reckon the Old Trafford side are ready to stump up as much as £34m for the teenager.

The 18 year old has matured into one of the most consistent full-backs in the Premier League, starting 35 of the Saints 38 top tier fixtures last term before making it into Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup squad.

Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal)

Though the Belgian has barely featured in the Gunners starting eleven over the past 18 months there is no denying his talents and a move to fill the void left by departing veterans Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic with the Arsenal man is a sensible option to consider.

Available for around £12m the former Ajax man is a no-nonsense defender who can fill in at both centre-back and left-back and has the experience to help Man United in their push to re-establish themselves on the Premier League after a disastrous campaign in 2013/14.

Arsene Wenger appears to have little qualms when it comes to selling to a Premier League rival, as evidenced by the mountain of talent he has happily sold to Man United’s local rivals Man City.

Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)

Louis van Gaal is no doubt aware that the club’s current crop of midfield ‘talent’ isn’t all that impressive and as such the Dutch coach is wise to look to address this ‘problem’ area.

Khedira is a hugely experienced campaigner and a player Carlo Ancelotti may consider selling in order to boost his own summer transfer pot. The 27 year old missed most of the last campaign through injury though has recovered well to put in some solid displays at the World Cup finals.

Given that the former Stuttgart man has to vie with the likes of Xabi Alonso, Luka Modric and Asier Illarramendi for a first team spot at the Bernabeu Ancelotti may feel he is a bankable asset and this source suggests such a move could cost as little as £15m.

Kevin Strootman (AS Roma)

Another option to strengthen the Man United midfield and a player who clearly Louis van Gaal knows well.

The AS Roma man is currently out with a long term injury but prior to being sidelined the former PSV Eindhoven man had greatly impressed in the Italian capital but Man United are seemingly ready to test the Stadio Olimpico side’s resolve with an offer for the box to box performer less than a year after his move to the Serie A side.

Memphis Depay (PSV Eindhoven)

The winger has made a name for himself at the World Cup, scoring in Holland’s wins over Australia and Chile, and is a player who arguably outgrown the Eredivisie.

The £17m rated wide-man has far more to offer than Nani and Ashley Young and could well be keen on a move to join his national team coach at Old Trafford.

Already dubbed the ‘Dutch Cristiano Ronaldo’ a move to Man United would no doubt solidify such comparisons.
