Chelsea And Manchester United Among The 10 Highest Earners At The 2013/14 Champions League

The duo represent the Premier League in Europe’s top club competition.

An interesting list has been released by UEFA revealed the 10 teams that made the most money from their Champions League campaigns in 2013/14.

Clubs earn more money for progressing further in the competition, but their own personally negotiated TV rights also comes into consideration as well.

Here’s the 10 biggest earners, with statistics courtesy of UEFA.

10. AC Milan – £30,079,200

The Italian giants won’t even be in next year’s competition after under-performing in Serie A and they will certainly miss this extra revenue.

9. Napoli – £30,878,400

The second Italian team now and a club that actually didn’t get out of their group after being pipped bu Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund on head-to-head records.

8. FC Barcelona – £33,580,000

It was not a good year for the Catalans by their extremely high standards and a quarter-final exit in this competition and no silverware cost head coach Gerardo Martino his job.

7. Juventus – £34,478,400

The distribution in Italy must favour the bigger clubs as Juve were another team that did not even get out of their group and yet finish seventh on this list.

6. Chelsea – £34,712,800

Reaching the semi-finals did the Blues no harm in terms of performance related money, although Jose Mourinho will still be disappointed with their showing on the pitch.

5. Bayern Munich – £35,692,800

The Bundesliga champions are holders crashed out in their defence of the title after losing 5-0 on aggregate over two-legs to Real Madrid.

4. Manchester United – £35,820,000

Being poor on the pitch hasn’t affected the Red Devils’ cache just yet, although like Milan they won’t be in this competition next season either.

3. Atetico Madrid – £40,038,400

Reaching their first ever final of this tournament helped the Spanish champions no end, with Atleti generally not being able to compete financially with most of the clubs on this list.

2. Paris Saint-Germain – £43,533,600

The French champions have something of a monopoly on television rights in France and therefore are higher on this list than their quarter-final would suggest.

1. Real Madrid – £45,931,200

Having won the competition it only makes sense that Madrid top this list, with their performances by the very nature being the best of the past 12 months.
