How Brendan Rodgers Is Likely To Spend Liverpool’s £60m Transfer Budget Including £25m England international

The Northern Irishman is preparing his squad for the Champions League.

After a brilliant year in the Premier League in 2013/14 Liverpool will be returning to the Champions League next season after a five year absence.

The Reds finished second to Manchester City in the English top tier last term against the odds and manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to build on that success.

There has already been some controversy involving the club as their forward Luis Suarez appeared to bite an opponent for the third time in his career during the Italy v Urguay 2014 World Cup match on Tuesday.

Suarez is also constantly being involved in transfer rumours, but regardless of whether the South American stays or goes the hierarchy at Anfield have already pledged a £60m transfer budget to Rodgers to spend on new talent, according to the Mirror.

Here’s who the Northern Irishman has his eye on.

Dejan Lovren, Southampton – £15m

Rickie Lambert has already made the switch from St Mary’s to Anfield this summer and the club are hoping that the England international con convince Lovren to do the same.

The Croatian has only been with the Saints for 12 months following an £8.5m switch from Olympique Lyon, but the 24-year-old has now handed in a transfer request.

Xherdan Shaqiri, Bayern Munich – £16m

After scoring a hat-trick for Switzerland at the World Cup on Wednesday it’s likely that many potential suitors are keeping a close eye on Shaqiri now.

The Reds have been long-term admirers of the 22-year-old winger, who has admitted he would leave the Allianz Arena for another Champions League club.

Marcos Rojo, Sporting Lisbon – £10m

With a deal for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno seemingly having come to a standstill, the Merseyside outfit are instead looking to other alternatives.

Not only is this Argentina international a cheaper option, but the 24-year-old can also play in central defence and therefore is much more versatile option.

Adam Lallana, Southampton – £25m

Finally it is yet another from the Hampshire side and an attacking midfielder that the Merseysiders have already had two rejected bids for.

It’s understood that the Saints are holding out for £30m, but Rodgers is hoping to be able to convince Lallana’s current side to settle for less than that.
