Lionel Messi, Chelsea Ace And Former Liverpool Midfielder All Make World Cup Group F Team Of The Tournament

The finest XI from the sixth group of the tournament.

Two more groups were concluded at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil on Wednesday, with Group F seeing Argentina and Nigeria make it to the knockout phase.

Despite good showings debutants Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iran head home and here is the best XI from the four nations based on their performances at the tournament.

GK – Victor Enyeama, Nigeria

Having kept an astonishing 11 consecutive clean-sheets for Lille in Ligue 1 last season this goalkeeper arrived in South America with plenty of confidence and has shown that in abundance.

RB – Kenneth Omeruo, Nigeria

Another Nigerian now and although this Chelsea youngster often plays in central defence for his country, the 20-year-old is naturally a right-back.

CB – Jalal Hosseini, Iran

Up until their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bosnia, the Asian team had conceded just one goal in the tournament and Carlos Quieroz’s men can be proud of what they showed at the tournament.

CB – Emir Spahic, Bosnia & Hervegovina

This Bayer Leverkusen veteran was unlucky to be on the losing side against the Argentinians in their first game and although was a little sloppy in the second, was back to his best against the Iranians.

LB – Marocs Rojo, Argentina

Although he plays as a centre-back for his club Sporting Lisbon, this 24-year-old has shown great versatility to operate on the left and even as a wing-back at this World Cup.

CM – Miralem Pjanic, Bosnia & Herzegovina

Clearly having a good previous domestic campaign is good for form on the international stage as this AS Roma midfielder showed with his fine displays.

CM – Javier Mascherano, Argentina

Marshaling the Argentine midfield with authority and composure, FC Barcelona should be taking notes and realising that Mascherano’s best position is not in central defence.

CM – Andranik Teymourian, Iran

This former Bolton Wanderers midfielder had a solid tournament, breaking up play in front of the back four and generally looking sharp.

RW – Musa, Nigeria

Netting twice against the mighty Argentinians must have been a great moment for this 21-year-old and the CSKA Moscow winger offers something exciting out wide.

ST – Lionel Messi, Argentina

At the last World Cup the four-time Ballon d’Or winner failed to score one single goal, but has changed all that with four already in 2014 and three Man of the Match awards to boot.

LW – Angel Di Maria, Argentina

With the South Americans one of only three potential teams that can make the last-16 with maximum points it’s only fair they have the majority of players in this XI and Real Madrid’s Di Maria is a real asset.
