Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Manchester City and Sunderland are amongst the clubs chasing the signature of Diego Poyet, the 19 year-old midfielder who is the son of Black Cats boss Gustavo, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Poyet, who only broke into the Charlton first team in the second half of last season, is a classy deep-lying playmaker who also retains elements of the tenacity that made his father such a fine player for the likes of Chelsea.

The 19 year-old, who was born in Zaragoza whilst his dad played for the local La Liga side, but who grew up in England, has represented the Three Lions at youth level so far in his career.

Having turned down a deal at the Valley, Poyet would be available for what is likely to be a negligible compensation package for the South London club, making it more attractive for a big club to gamble on his undoubted potential.

Whether the lure of working for his father of joining one of the country’s biggest clubs would be what attracts Poyet remains unclear, but it seems as though one of the Championship’s finest young talents will certainly be leaving the division this summer.
