Five Alternatives For Liverpool For £25m Adam Lallana Including Arsenal Target

The players the Reds could have spent their money on.

If reports in the Independent are to be believed then Southampton captain Adam Lallana is on the verge of completing a £25m transfer to Liverpool.

The England international has been linked with the Reds for some time and will become the second Saints star to make the switch after Rickie Lambert moved to Anfield for £4m.

However, many think the price for Lallana is too steep and here are five alternatives to the 26-year-old that the Merseysiders could have spent their money on.

Roberto Firmino, Hoffenheim

Although this Brazilian signed a new deal with his current side in March, Firmino could still be on his way if the offer is right.

The 22-year-old greatly impressed in the Bundesliga last campaign, scoring 16 goals and providing 11 assists despite operating from attacking midfield.

Isco, Real Madrid

Linked with the Merseyside club earlier in the year, many thought this Spaniard would welcome a move from the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in order to obtain more first team football.

Still just 22-years-old Isco had to compete with the likes of Gareth Bale and Angel Di Maria for a place in the starting XI last term.

Lazar Markovic, Benfica

A winger now and a player who impressed last season as his side reached the final of the Europa League for a second successive year and also won the Primeria Liga title.

Currently manager Brendan Rodgers only has youngster Raheem Sterling as an option out wide and a figure of Markovic’s quality would be a real boost.

Alexis Sanchez, FC Barcelona

Perhaps the favourite choice for many Reds fans on this list as Sanchez has been greatly impressing at the ongoing 2014 World Cup in Brazil with his national side Chile.

The 25-year-old is understood to be frustrated with a lack of first team opportunities at the Nou Camp and could be tempted to England – with Arsenal also interested.

Xherdan Shaqiri, Bayern Munich

Another who has caught the eye at the World Cup is Switzerland international Shaqiri, who netted a hat-trick in his last outing against Honduras.

The 22-year-old also wants more game time and has openly admitted he would leave the Allianz Arena for another club with Champions League football.
