Following Luis Suarez’s bite on Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, the most talked about incident in sport right now, it looks more and more likely that the Uruguayan maverick will be leaving Anfield this summer, with Barcelona and Real Madrid sniffing around him.

Liverpool want £80m for his services, and are almost certain to reinvest the money should the 27-year-old forward eventually leave.

Here’s eight players Liverpool could sign this summer, even if Suarez isn’t sold.

IN:

1) Rickie Lambert – £4m

The ageing striker has already signed for the Reds for a small £4m fee from Southampton, and it’s likely that he’ll act as backup to Daniel Sturridge in 2014/15.

2) Emre Can – £9.5m

Another player already signed, young Emre Can captains the German Under-20s, and performed superbly for Bayer Leverkusen last season. He can tackle, drive through the middle, and pass – and is expected to be used in rotation for Steven Gerrard – with the skipper not getting any younger.

3) Adam Lallana – £25m

A mammoth £25m move from Southampton is on the verge of completion, with the England international having passed a medical on Friday. He’ll add guile to the midfield, and can be used either out wide or through the middle.

4) Lazar Markovic – £25m

The 20-year-old Serbian is ludicrously talented, and despite the fact his club Benfica have stuck a £25m price tag on his head – Liverpool are still heavily interested. Markovic is a pacey winger, but his vision enables him to play intricate through-balls too.

5) Dejan Lovren – £15m

The Reds conceded 50 Premier League goals last term, and Croatian central defender Dejan Lovren is the man expected to come in and shore up the leaky back line. The 24-year-old excelled for Southampton last term, and the Reds could fight Spurs and Arsenal to his £15m signature.

6) Ricardo Rodriguez £15m (estimated)

With the Alberto Moreno deal off – the Reds could turn to highly rated Swiss left-back Ricardo Rodriguez to solve the left-back problem. Rodriguez assisted more goals (9) than any other defender in Europe last term. We rate him at around £15m.

7) Alexis Sanchez – £30m

If rumours are to be believed, Barcelona could use Alexis Sanchez as bait in their bid to lure Luis Suarez to Spain. The Reds rate him at £80m, but if Barcelona offer the Chilean superstar in exchange, who’s rated at around £30m, Brendan Rodgers’ men could consider doing business.

8) Divock Origi – £11m

The Reds are on the verge of announcing an £11m deal for Belgian wing forward Origi, the only teenager to have scored a goal at this summer’s World Cup so far.
