Top Five Golden Boot Contenders For The 2014/15 Premier League, Including Expected Chelsea Signing

Who will be next season’s Premier League top goalscorer…

Find out who are the most valuable players in world football.

Whether Luis Suarez stays or goes, will any Premier League striker be able to eclipse the 31 goals the Uruguayan struck for Liverpool last season. Here is a look at the top five golden boot contenders.

5) Diego Costa (Chelsea)

This 25-year-old Spanish striker has been on the verge of signing for Chelsea for some time. Assuming the move does come off, Costa could prove a key man at Stamford Bridge, and will likely shoulder the burden of leading the line for Jose Mourinho’s new look team. With the prospect of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian and Cesc Fabregas amongst a host of attacking players likely to be offering him support, surely the Brazilian-born forward will continue the form that saw him score 36 goals for Atletico Madrid last season.

4) Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool)

This former Manchester City and Chelsea striker has unleashed his potential since joining Liverpool in January 2013. He’s already netted 31 Premier League goals for the Reds in just 43 appearances. He managed 24 goals in all competitions last season, while he also struck for England against Italy at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. If Luis Suarez is to leave Anfield this summer, there is little doubt as to who the main man will be.

3) Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

An extremely talented striker who has scored 52 Premier League goals since joining Manchester City in the summer of 2011. City will be strong again next season, and are likely to make the additions to rival the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United. His main concern over recent months has been injuries. He managed just 23 Premier League appearances last season, while he picked up another knock in Argentina’s recent World Cup game with Nigeria.

2) Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

Last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner, who managed 31 goals in the 2013-14 season, will hope to repeat that achievement if he decides to stay at Anfield this summer, and ignore the advances of Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid. He will be suspended until mid-October as the result of his World Cup bite against Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, but a similar ban did little to slow him down last year, as he hit the ground running upon his return.

1) Robin Van Persie (Manchester United)

This Dutch star might have had a slightly quiet campaign in a difficult 2013-14 season for Manchester United, but its worth remembering that he still managed 12 Premier League goals in 21 games, taking his tally to 38 for the Old Trafford club. After a positive World Cup, and with his international manager Louis van Gaal already having taken over the manager’s reigns, the 30-year-old will be hoping for another excellent season.
