The Blues have had a deal in place for the Brazilian-born Spain international for some time, and many believed that the move would be completed upon the defending world champions elimination from the tournament almost two weeks ago.

However, reports on Spain’s AS.com claim that the Blues and Atletico Madrid are still working on completing the deal as the La Liga outfit are still keen on bringing goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to the Vicente Calderon after three years on loan in the capital.

The two clubs are now thought to be close to agreeing a deal, though, and the £32m switch could be completed by Friday, thus bringing an end to one of the summer’s longest running transfer sagas.

The Blues are also set to wrap up a move for Fenerbahce striker Emmanuel Emenike after the Turks offered him up for just £15m despite his star performances at the World Cup with Nigeria.

Chelsea’s interest in the striker emerged last week, with the 27-year-old impressing in his nation’s run to the last 16 of the World Cup, where they were narrowly beaten by France on Monday evening.

Emenike bagged himself 11 goals in 27 appearances in the Turkish Super Lig last season and could be the first striker to join Jose Mourinho’s squad overhaul this summer, as his move would likely go ahead before Costa joins the club.

Chelsea can now start to put the wheels in motion of relieving themselves of the misfiring duo Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, with Samuel Eto’o already being released.
