Five Uruguayan World Cup Stars That Could Join Luis Suarez At Liverpool

Five Uruguayans that starred at the World Cup who could head to Anfield this summer.

The Uruguayans have undoubtedly been one of the most controversial teams at the World Cup in recent years. Whether it be handling the ball on the line in South Africa, or biting opponents in Brazil (okay, that’s just one player that did those things) this side have attracted attention one way or another. But despite the controversy they have a talented squad of players at their disposal, and here are five of their World Cup stars that could make their way to Anfield this summer.

5. Maxi Periera – Benfica

The 30-year-old is reportedly being eyed by Brendan Rodgers as a key man to help boost the squads chances of success next term now that they have made a return to the promised land of the Champions League. Short, quick and powerful, his tireless running would be a surefire threat to Glen Johnson’s place in the squad.

4. Martin Caceres – Juventus

The Juve star played what could be called a ‘bit part’ role in Turin last season and with the Reds set to jettison Sebastian Coates (amongst others) the 27-year-old could do worse than joining Brendan Rodgers’ side as he would likely get more playing time. He is built for the physical demands of the Premier League and has that Barcelona background to ensure that he has the quality.

3. Alvaro Pereira – Inter Milan

The 28-year-old was once a key man at the San Siro, but last season linked up with Brazilian side Sao Paolo on loan. If the Reds can convince him to sell to them, they will have a tireless runner that could solve their left-back issues for the next couple of years at least. His versatility will also appeal to Rodgers, who could move him forward onto the wing when needed.

2. Gaston Ramirez – Southampton

It may be an odd suggestion given that he hasn’t exactly set the Premier League alight since joining the Saints, but Liverpool have needed someone of quality in the middle behind the strikers for some time. Furthermore, having already landed Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana they may as well make it a hat trick and bring the 23-year-old on board in a bid to reignite his career.

1. Edinson Cavani – Paris Saint Germain

Who better to replace Luis Suarez (if he does leave) than his international strike partner. And if Suarez doesn’t leave, he will have a foil that he knows like the back of his hand. Rodgers is known to be looking for more options up front, and as well as a terrifying record in front of goal he would also provide the club with something that they don’t already have. He’ll undoubtedly be the priciest player on this list, though, but with the money there, signing him would not only strengthen their own side, but weaken their rivals as well.
