Ten Premier League Transfers That Will Be Completed This Week

It’s July 1st, the transfer window is now ‘officially’ open and with that in mind here are 10 deals that will be completed this week.

Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal to Man United)

The ideal cost effective option to help fill the void left by departing defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

The former Ajax man has become a bit-part player at the Emirates Stadium with Arsene Wenger opting to use Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny as his first choice central defensive pairing and preferring Kieran Gibb at left-back.

Man United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Vermaelen and have seen an opening bid turned down by the north London club, who want £12m for the experienced defender.

Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid to Chelsea)

Jose Mourinho had been keen to freshen up his attacking options after the collective failure of the likes of Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres to consistently provide a goal-scoring edge last season.

Costa netted 36 goals in all competitions last term, the last of which came away at Stamford Bridge as his Atletico Madrid side knocked out Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals.

This deal has since been completed.

Esteban Cambiasso (Inter Milan to Tottenham)

Experienced campaigner could be the ideal man to be Mauricio Pochettino’s mouth-piece at the centre of the park, available for nothing.

Veteran Argentine midfielder has been told he won’t be handed a new San Siro contract so is free to pursue a fresh challenge a move to White Hart Lane is reportedly an option and one we can see the 33 year old pursuing.

Filipe Luis (Atletico Madrid to Chelsea)

Seen as a replacement for veteran left-back Ashley Cole and yet another Atletico Madrid player said to be high up on Jose Mourinho’s wish-list. 28 year old Brazilian may feel he has achieved all he can at the Vicente Calderon and will hope a high-profile move would help in his push for a more prominent role at national team level.

Xherdan Shaqiri (Bayern Munich to Liverpool)

Regardless of whether Luis Suarez leaves Anfield it appears Brendan Rodgers is very keen to bring in an out and out wide-attacker who can provide the ammunition for his strike-force.

Liverpool have been in ongoing talks with the Swiss international for some weeks and Brendan Rodgers appears keen to bring in a fresh wide attacking option having seemingly passed on the option to sign loaned in Chelsea man Victor Moses after an average temporary spell at the club. Shaqiri only started ten Bundesliga fixtures last term and has shown just what he is capable of during the World Cup finals, netting a hat-trick against Honduras.

Tiago (Free Agent to Chelsea)

By all accounts the intelligent midfielder is set to sign a two year deal with his former club.

Former Chelsea man is soon to be out of contract at Atletico Madrid and by all accounts is very likely to return to Stamford Bridge, perhaps Jose Mourinho begrudgingly coming to the conclusion he was wrong to sell the Portuguese box to box performer in the first place. Won’t cost a penny, so why not?

Divock Origi (Lille to Liverpool)

The young Belgian impressed in Ligue 1 last term and has continued that fine form at the World Cup finals and by all accounts a £9.8m move to Anfield is on the cards.

The 19 year old moved from Genk to Lille in 2010 and has matured into a very effective attacker who can play in wide and central roles and could be an intelligent back-up option in the short-term.

A move for Origi could be funded by the sales of Iago Aspas and/or Fabio Borini, with neither player impressing in Liverpool colours and seemingly not part of the club’s long term plans.

Fernando (FC Porto to Man City)

Brazilian midfielder is set to join a very long list of ‘enforcers’ at the Etihad Stadium but no doubt the FC Porto man is confident he can become a first team regular, or at the very least earn a massive sum of money as he attempts to do so. Will need to overcome the challenge of Fernandinho, Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell.

Dejan Lovren (Southampton to Liverpool)

The 24 year old Croatian moved to the south-coast side in an £8.5m switch from Ligue 1 side Lyon and adapted incredibly well to life in the English top tier, marshaling the Southampton defence excellently last term, but a move to a side able to offer Champions League may well tempt the rock solid centre-back.

Could become Liverpool’s third Southampton capture of the summer with Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana already in place at Anfield.

Ben Davies (Swansea City to Tottenham)

Pochettino will look to youngster Ben Davies to resolve Tottenham’s ongoing left-back crisis, perhaps seeing the Welsh international as a preferable option to both Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen, the Belgian being far better suited to a central defensive role.

An £8m offer has apparently already been registered.
