Ten Shocking Transfers That Could Go Ahead This Summer

Ten out-of-the-blue moves that could happen this summer.

With the transfer window now open, there will be a number of deal done that sneak up on us from off the radar. Often it is the biggest transfers that come out of nowhere, and with the money set to fly once again, there are a number of unusual moves ready to be made.

Gary Medel – Cardiff City to Arsenal

The Chilean star has turned the public’s opinion of him thanks to the World Cup. When he arrived at Cardiff last summer he was tagged as a thug, but he has enjoyed a decent disciplinary record for the Bluesbirds, and his performances in general have been top notch, even though he was unable to halt the club’s slide back to the Championship. With Arsenal in need of a defensive midfielder they could do much worse than landing the Chilean hard man. Furthermore, he can fill in at centre-back when needed.

Marco Verratti – Paris Saint Germain to Manchester United

The young Italian has been on the outs in Paris following a strong debut campaign. Having missed out on making it into Cesare Prandelli’s World Cup squad he will be seeking a move to a club able to accommodate him and help him get to the level everyone know’s he should be at. Having been linked with United since last summer, the time could be right to bring him on board as Louis Van Gaal will undoubtedly need some new midfield talent if he is to revive the club’s fortunes.

Nani – Manchester United to Arsenal

Arsene Wenger is no stranger to making strange moves in the transfer market, even signing a Manchester United reject or two in his time (anyone remember Mikael Silvestre?) and the tactician may be the one who could finally get the Portuguese winger firing again. Nani has conceded that his time at Old Trafford is likely to be over this summer, with a move to Italy being strongly tipped, but Wenger could seek to make a late swoop and add some more creativity to his wide areas.

Arjen Robben – Bayern Munich to Manchester United

Roben is a player that Louis Van Gaal will know well, as he is currently in the process of getting the best out of him with the Dutch national side this summer. There were rumours that all wasn’t well in Bavaria last season and Robben was tipped to move on. He made a strong recovery toward the end of the season, but there’s a sense that no one at Bayern is untouchable any longer. Also, Robben has unfinished business in the Premier League, and could seek a (high priced) move to United in order to complete the job.

Edinson Cavani – Paris Saint Germain to Liverpool

Cavani is likely to leave the Parisian giants this summer after spending the season as second fiddle to the one and only Zlatan. With Luis Suarez set to make his way to Spain in the coming weeks, how best to replace one prolific Uruguayan than with another one? Likely to cost a significant fee, that won’t be a problem for the Reds after their summer windfall.

Radamel Falcao – Monaco to Chelsea

Despite the Blues closing in on the signing of Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa, boss Jose Mourinho is keen to make sure his side don’t run dry up top for a second successive season. The Colombian ace missed out on the World Cup, but he is still considered as one of the finest strikers on the planet. He will look to leave the principality side this summer after growing disillusioned with playing in front of half empty stadiums in Ligue 1.

Gregory van der Weil – Paris Saint Germain to Arsenal

With the Gunners in desperate need of a new right-back following Bacary Sagna’s defection to Manchester City this month,Wenger could be tempted to turn to the Dutchman who was once so highly-rated but has now seen his star fall dramatically in Ligue 1. Available for a fraction of his original transfer fee, the Gunners will be able to snare a player still capable of receiving his former qualities now that his injury concerns are behind him.

Klaas-Jan-Huntelaar – Schalke to Tottenham Hotspur

Now that Mauricio Pochettino is in charge, Spurs will be wasting no time in overhauling their squad in a bid to get back to where they think they belong. Strikers will be the order of the day, and with Adebayor and Soldado set to head for the exit doors, a big name will be needed to come on board to excite the fans and provide a real attacking threat once again. Huntelaar has played everywhere but the Premier League, but at 30 the time could be right for him to make the move and test himself in England.

James Rodriguez – Monaco to Liverpool

The Colombian has been the name on everyone’s lips at the World Cup and he, like compatriot Falcao, is set to make an exit from Monaco this summer. The Reds are in the market for a new attacking midfielder during the transfer market, and if they can stump up the funds, and put on one hell of a marketing job, Liverpool could find themselves in possession of what is arguably the most in form player in the world right now.

Thomas Muller – Bayern Munich to Arsenal

As stated before, nobody is safe at Bayern, and though he has been linked with such prestigious clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona, there is a feeling that his playing style would suit the Gunners more than anyone. He would cost the club big, bit that’s no problem as they have the funds necessary to wrap up the deal, and surely his international teammates with die mannschaft could have a quiet word in his ear to twist his arm.
