Manchester United to Move Ahead In Audacious £68m Double World Cup Midfield Deal

Red Devils targeting impressive World Cup pair for summer transfers.

Manchester United will this week ramp up their efforts to sign classy midfield duo Sami Khedira and James Rodriguez after both players have impressed greatly during this summer’s World Cup.

The Manchester Evening News has claimed that United are still very much in the hunt to land the German star despite Arsenal stepping up their own efforts to bring him to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has been tipped to head for the exit at the Bernabeu at some point during the transfer window after missing the majority of the previous campaign through injury.

He had recovered in time to make an appearance during the Champions League final and was even called up to Germany’s World Cup squad, where he has played a key part in helping them reach the quarter-finals.

Khedira has just one-year remaining on his current deal in the Spanish capital, but it is thought that he would still command a hefty fee anywhere between £16-24m as Real hope to spark a bidding war between United and Arsenal.

However, United have been given a huge boost in their hopes of landing Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez after reports in the Daily Star claimed the player’s agent admitted that Real Madrid aren’t the only side linked with his client.

Rodriguez has undoubtedly been the tournament’s star player so far, scoring five times to help the South American’s make it to the quarter final stage, where they will face hosts Brazil on Friday evening.

Madrid were understood to be leading the chase to sign the £45m-rated Monaco star, but agent Aytekin Erayabakan revealed that there are a number of other clubs interested.

Both Napoli and Barcelona are believed to be keen, but new United boss Louis Van Gaal is said to have handed vice-chairman Ed Woodward a list of potential targets to pursue whilst he still leads the Netherlands.

Rodriguez as well as his compatriot Juan Cuadrado are targets for Van Gaal as he attempts to freshen up United’s attacking options.
