Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called up legendary Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas to convince him to move to the Premier League and end his 15 year stint with the Real Madrid first team, reports El Mundo Deportivo.
The report claims that Casillas and his wife Sara will be seriously considering the move, as the couple love London. What’s more, Casillas is in personal turmoil right now after losing his La Liga starting spot to Diego Lopez, and enduring a torrid time at the World Cup this summer with Spain.
With Real Madrid also targeting Keylor Navas, Petr Cech and even Manchester United’s David de Gea – Casillas’s future at the Bernabeu is even more in doubt.
The Gunners currently have Wojciech Szczesny as no.1, but with fellow Pole Lukasz Fabianski leaving on a free to join Swansea, Wenger needs to bring in another keeper to compete with the 24-year-old for the starting spot between the sticks.
Szczesny performed excellently last season, and is unlikely to give up the no.1 jersey without a fight, even if one of the game’s real legends were to arrive this summer.
