A round-up of today’s Liverpool-related transfer stories.Luis Suarez close to sealing £80m Barcelona move

Luis Suarez’s proposed £80m move from Liverpool to Barcelona could be completed within the next 48 hours, according to the Daily Mail.

The 27-year-old has been a top target for the Catalan giants despite the four-month ban recently imposed on him by Fifa for his bite on Giorgio Chiellini at this summer’s World Cup, which may also have tempted the Reds to let him leave for the right price.

A cash-only offer seems to be the most likely outcome of this deal, with Alexis Sanchez’s future remaining uncertain, despite interest from Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Southampton reject Reds’ £20m Dejan Lovren bid

Liverpool have seen a £20m bid for Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren rejected by Southampton, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The 24-year-old is the latest Saints player to be targeted by the Merseyside giants, who have already signed both Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana from the St Mary’s outfit this summer, while the club have also lost young left-back Luke Shaw to Manchester United.

Lovren is reported to be keen on a move to Anfield, with the Daily Mail adding that he may go on strike in an attempt to force through a move.

Liverpool face Arsenal competition for Alexis Sanchez

Arsenal could look to beat Liverpool to the signing of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez with an offer of £32m, according to the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form for club and country in recent times, and could now be set to leave the Nou Camp after impressing at this summer’s World Cup, with suggestions that Liverpool could land him as part of a swap deal that would see Luis Suarez move to the Catalan giants.

However, the Gunners look set to step up their interest in the South American star, though it remains to be seen where he will choose to play his football next season.

New signing Emre Can states title ambitions

Liverpool unveiled their new signing Emre Can at their Melwood training ground yesterday, with the German youngster from Bayer Leverkusen stating his ambitions to win the Premier League title.

Brendan Rodgers’ side came so close to sealing the title last season, finishing second to Manchester City on the final day of the season, and Can hopes he can help the Merseyside giants to go all the way this time.

“I want to be a Premier League champion next season,” Can is quoted as saying in the Liverpool Echo.

“I just want to give my best and help the team as much as I can. We will give it our best in order to finish on top of the table.”

Liverpool misfit set to stay put next season

In a surprise twist, it could be that Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina will remain at Anfield next season after failing to seal a move elsewhere, Sky Sports reports.

The Spaniard spent last season out on loan with Serie A side Napoli, and has been linked with several clubs since then after falling behind Simon Mignolet in the pecking order at Liverpool.

However, his agent Manuel Garcia Quillon is quoted as saying: “I know rumours are circulating about Reina’s future. But I can confirm that next season Pepe will play for Liverpool.

“Reina will respect his deal with the English side.”
