United eager to complete Vermaelen deal

Manchester United will complete their move for Thomas Vermaelen once the Arsenal defender returns from the World Cup.

The Mirror are reporting that United will seal a £10m deal once Belgium’s tournament campaign comes to an end, helping fill the void left by the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Belgium take on Argentina later today in the quarter-final stage of the competition. The winner will play either Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands, or Costa Rica.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season, but the Gunners are refusing to settle for a cut-price deal.

Fellaini content at Old Trafford

Marouane Fellaini has insisted he has nothing to prove at Old Trafford, despite a disappointing first season with Manchester United which has left him on the brink of a move away from the club.

Former United boss David Moyes paid £27.5 million to take Fellaini from Everton last summer. However, the Belgian went on to make just 12 Premier League starts, and failed to score a goal.

With Ander Herrera arriving from Athletic Bilbao, he could find life at the club even harder next season.

Asked if he will still be at Old Trafford next season, Fellaini replied: “We will see after the World Cup. I don’t have to prove anything. I’ve been a professional footballer for eight years.”

Newcastle to rival Janmaat bid

Newcastle United will rival Manchester United’s bid for Dutch defender Daryl Janmaat.

The Feyenoord player has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, where he would of course link up with his international manager, Louis van Gaal.

However, with Newcastle resigned to losing current right-back Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal, Magpies boss Alan Pardew has stepped up his interest in the 24-year-old.

Juventus set Vidal asking price

Reports in Italy have claimed that Juventus will chase a minimum of €40m for star-midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Vidal has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, but the Italian giants are desperate to hang on to the 27-year-old, who impressed with Chile at the World Cup this summer.

Conversely, the Daily Express has claimed that United have already agreed a deal for Vidal, with the Chilean set to form a fearsome midfield partnership with Ander Herrera.

Evra linked with move

One man that could be moving in the opposite direction, is full-back Patrice Evra, who is keen to leave Old Trafford, rather than play a back-up role to new signing Luke Shaw.

Evra signed a new one year contact with the club in May, but could yet me tempted by a move to Juventus, where he would join up with international teammate Paul Pogba.

Tuttosport is reporting that Juve boss Antonio Conte has spoken to Pogba, and wants him to smooth over an upcoming bid.
