Manchester United could be playing in a 3-4-3 formation next season, as new manager Louis van Gaal looks to put his own unique stamp on the Old Trafford club.

The Daily Mirror made the claim last night, explaining that Van Gaal will look to employ the same system that he has with the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup.

It has certainly been successful for him, with the Dutch winning all five of their games to progress to the tournament’s semi-final stage. They thrashed World Champions Spain 5-1 in their opening match, before defeating Australia, Chile, Mexico and Costa Rica to set up a meeting with Argentina.

One of the few positives to emerge from David Moyes’ short lived reign as Manchester United boss was the continued progression of David de Gea.

At just 23-years-old the Spaniard’s potential is huge. Having now justified the £17.8 m fee Sir Alex Ferguson paid for him in 2011, he will be looking to become number one for both club and country next season.
