Now Chelsea have completed £60m worth of deals already for Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, the side available to manager Jose Mourinho’s disposal is frightening.

Last term, the Portuguese maverick led his side to third in the Premier League – but with his team enjoying the best defensive record by some distance – an influx of goals into the side could easily help them go two better in 2014/15 – especially with Liverpool’s best player Luis Suarez leaving, and doubts around the future of Manchester City’s best player Yaya Toure.

GK) Thibaut Courtois

Over the last decade, countless debates have raged over who the best ‘keeper in the world is – with many arguments for Iker Casillas, others for Gianluigi Buffon, and more recently, Manuel Neuer’s name being thrown into the fold as well. Aged just 22-years-old, Courtois is being mentioned in the same breath as these legends – and it’s almost unimaginable how good he could be if he fulfils his potential. Petr Cech has been a brilliant servant to the Blues, but Mourinho has assured fans the young Belgian will be returning from his three year loan spell with Atletico this summer – and there’s no way he’ll be content with a spot on the bench…

DR) Branislav Ivanovic

The Serbian stalwart is superb defensively, and has the ability to score important goals in big matches too. He’s just the kind of player Mourinho trusts at the back.

DC) Gary Cahill

Now David Luiz has been sold to PSG for big money, Cahill’s spot in the side is practically guaranteed. Young Kurt Zouma will probably be sent straight out on loan.

DC) John Terry

Terry signed a contract extension this summer, and after marshalling the best defence in the country last term – he’ll be expected to do so again next season.

DL) Cesar Azpilicueta

Ashley Cole has joined AS Roma, and while a replacement for the Englishman may arrive, they’ll do well to oust the excellent Spaniard from the side.

MC) Nemanja Matic

The superb box-to-box battler shone last season since arriving from Benfica in January, and provides his side with an excellent platform from which they can perform. His passing is underrated as well.

MC) Ramires

Mourinho could play a more attacking formation without Ramires in the side, with Cesc Fabregas alongside Matic – and three attacking midfielders ahead of the pair, with a spearhead forward up top. However, Ramires was a virtual ever present when fit last term, and his work-rate in midfield is crucial to the balance of the team.

AMR) Oscar/Willian

Oscar’s played on the right for Brazil at the World Cup, and could move there to accommodate Fabregas centrally. Willian also provides a superb, hard-working option down this flank, and both are capable of drifting infield and linking up with the other midfielders.

AMC) Cesc Fabregas

Fabregas is creatively brilliant, and will provide the midfield with some of the guile and cleverness it arguably lacked last term. With a solid platform of Ramires and Matic behind him, the brilliant Spaniard will hope to dictate Chelsea’s temp and their attacks.

AML) Eden Hazard

Chelsea’s most dangerous attacking threat with the ball at his feet, Hazard topped Chelsea’s charts for both goals and assists last season, and at 23, he’s only likely to get even better.

FC) Diego Costa

Costa scored more goals last term in all competitions (36) than Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba put together! If he hits the ground running, the Spanish powerhouse forward will surely make Chelsea a practically unstoppable force.
