Liverpool’s Impressive XI For 2014/15 After The Sale Of Luis Suarez But £76.9m Of New Talent

How the Reds are likely to lineup next term.

It’s already been a busy summer of business for Liverpool who have secured the signings of Emre Can, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana, whilst Luis Suarez is being heavily linked with a switch to FC Barcelona.

Despite the expected loss of their best player the Reds’ starting XI is still likely to be something special next season and here is how Brendan Rodgers’ men could lineup.

GK – Simon Mignolet

Signed from Sunderland for £9m last summer the Belgian was hardly groundbreaking during his first campaign at Anfield, but Rodgers is a big fan and Mignolet will stay between the sticks for a little while longer.

RB – Jon Flanagan

Despite the success of the Merseysiders last year usual right-back Glen Johnson was still a weak link and the 29-year-old further proved that at the 2014 World Cup with England, meaning impressive youngster Flanagan should be given a chance in his favoured position.

CB – Martin Skrtel

Perhaps the only centre-back to impress last season in a period in which the team were defensively fragile and the Slovakian is likely to keep his place – although will have Mamadou Sakho breathing down his neck.

CB – Dejan Lovren

With Lambert and Lallana having already made the switch from Southampton, this centre-back has publicly admitted he wants to do the same and has also handed in a transfer request at St Mary’s to try and make that happen.

LB – Marcos Rojo

Initially it seemed as if Rodgers had pinpointed Sevilla’s Albert Moreno as the man to fill the problematic left-back berth, but the fee the Spaniards are demanding is too high and this versatile Argentina international could be a better alternative because of it.

CM – Steven Gerrard

Even at 34-years-old the captain has proven that he is still among the finest midfielders in the game and has adapted to play in a deeper position similar to that of Juventus and Italy legend Andrea Pirlo.

CM – Jordan Henderson

Partnering the skipper is an England international who’s form continues to improve and despite his nation’s poor showing at the World Cup, Henderson proved that he could play an integral part for the Three Lions in the coming years.

RM – Xherdan Shaqiri

With playing time at the Allianz Arena limited this 22-year-old is keen to leave Bayern Munich and the fact they can now offer Champions League football makes the Reds a desirable destination for the Switzerland international.

CAM – Raheem Sterling

What a 12 months it has been for this 19-year-old, who like Henderson was one of the few Englishmen to come out of the World Cup with any credit and also impressed against the Italians playing in his new No.10 role.

LM – Adam Lallana

Some doubt whether the new £25m man is exactly what Rodgers needs, but for his work rate and technique shown with the Saints securing the 26-year-old could prove to be a shrewd move as the Merseyside club take on Europe once more.

ST – Daniel Sturridge

The player who is likely to feel the pressure of Suarez’s sale the most is Sturridge, with the 24-year-old striker forming a strong partnership with the Uruguayan last campaign, but scored 10 less Premier League goals.
