Brazilian Mega Clear-Out: Six Shambolic Stars Should Never, Ever Play For Their Country Again

Many Brazilians should never be called up again after 7-1 demolition…

Last night’s humiliation was the worst in Brazilian football, and probably – the worst in the history of the World Cup. Not only did Luis Felipe’s Scolari’s men let themselves down, but they completely embarrassed a nation of fanatics, and played like a young child was was upset that their birthday party hadn’t lived up to their fantasy expectations.

It was a disgrace – and here’s seven who should never be called up to a Brazilian squad again.

6) Fred

This was Fred’s heat map against the Germans (and not one of those joke ones you regularly see on Twitter).

The striker is abysmal, and how he ever got near this Brazilian squad when players like Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Lucas Moura were sat at home, is to be fair, his manager’s fault – but it doesn’t make him anymore gruellingly poor. Fred doesn’t make runs, he can’t hold the ball up, he has the turning circle of a rotating restaurant – and unless the ball arrives on a plate from six yards out, he’s obsolete. The phrase ‘robbing a living’ has never been more apt. At times, it appears he’s carrying one of those rock cars that his namesake Mr. Flintstone does, such is his tortoise-esque pace. So, so poor.

5) Julio Cesar

The 34-year-old wasn’t at fault for all of the goals, but in comparison to his opposite number last night, Manuel Neuer, Cesar is well, well past it. He doesn’t have a right foot either, so can’t play it out properly from the back – and the fact he couldn’t get in QPR’s side last season probably sums up where he is right now in terms of ability.

4) Dante

Slow, dopey in possession, and prone to poor decisions. He’s 30 now, and while he’s enjoyed a short peak with Bayern Munich, he won’t be needed by the time the next World Cup comes around – and it’s time to build a new side who can cover the cracks of last night.

3) Maicon

Why did Maicon, aged 32, start ahead of Dani Alves – who is widely regarded as one of the world’s best right-backs? Maicon made mistake, after mistake and mistake – and while he used to be an attacking threat, his lack of pace now makes him no longer needed. Get rid.

2) Hulk

A big, powerful, but at times lumbering forward, Hulk is not your archetypal Brazilian. His role on the right, or left wing – should be given to a far more ‘Brazilian’ player like Coutinho, Bernard, Lucas Moura, or countless other young talents who weren’t even considered by Scolari for the squad. he technically doesn’t have the ability to retain possession, or play intricate through-balls – that his German opponents had in jaw-dropping abundance.

1) Marcelo

Best left-back in the world? Do us a favour. He probably will play for Brazil again – but he has no right to, when probably the best left-back in Europe last season, Filipe Luis, wasn’t even in Scolari’s squad. Marcelo totally neglected his defensive duties in a World Cup semi-final, making stupid ill-judged decisions to mindlessly storm forward and gift Germany goals. Even terrible footballers can stand in the right place so the opposition have to at least pass or dribble round them. Not Marcelo, though.
