CaughtOffside understands that, with Brendan Rodgers desperate to bring new attacking players in, Lavezzi could now be lined up as a good alternative to Sanchez, due to his ability to play on either flank or through the middle.

The Argentine international, who played for his country as they edged the Netherlands on penalties last night, is likely to leave PSG this summer after struggling to find his best form with the club, and will look to resolve his future after representing his national side in Sunday’s World Cup final against Germany.,

The 29-year-old has been linked with Premier League clubs in the past, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all recently mentioned as admirers of his due to his potential availability in this transfer window, though Liverpool may now be the favourites to snap him up.

The Reds have also been linked with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri to enhance their options in the attacking midfield department, while the signing of Benfica youngster Lazar Markovic is also reportedly close to completion, with the Serbian wide-man set to join England international Adam Lallana as a new addition in that area.

Still, Rodgers wants one more player who can come in and play a variety of attacking roles, and could make an opening offer of around £20m for Lavezzi, which is thought to be enough for PSG to consider letting him go.

The South American star had been one of the best players at his old club Napoli, but has not truly settled in to life in Ligue 1, paving way for an exit from the Parc des Princes before next season.

Lavezzi should fit in nicely at Anfield due to his technical ability and attack-minded style of play, as the Merseyside giants look to launch another title bid in 2014/15 after coming so close to winning the league last season.

They will likely have to do so without star player Luis Suarez as he closes in on a move to Barcelona, and it is through that deal that the club had hoped to bring in Sanchez in return, though he has instead chosen to join Arsenal.
