How New Signings Alexis Sanchez And Lars Bender Will Fit Into Arsenal’s Team For 2014/15

The Gunners side is starting to look strong.

Reports from the Telegraph says that Arsenal are closing in on a triple deal to sign Alexis Sanchez, Lars Bender and Mathieu Debuchy in the near future.

The trio will help bolster a squad that was inconsistent last season and manager Arsene Wenger will be hoping the new arrivals can take his side back to the top of the Premier League.

Here’s how the newbies could fit into Wenger’s XI.

GK – Wojciech Szczesny

Last term the Pole proved beyond doubt that he was good enough to make the No.1 jersey his own and Lukasz Fabianski has been released to Swansea City as a result.

Although backup is needed for Szczesny as Emiliano Viviano has also returned to Parma after an unsuccessful loan spell, the 24-year-old will remain between the sticks.

RB – Mathieu Debuchy

The departure of Bacary Sagna to Manchester City on a free transfer means the Gunners desperately need a new right-back – with Carl Jenkinson not considered good enough.

Although many names have been linked with the club, it’s Sagna’s France teammate Debuchy of Newcastle United that looks to be the replacement Wenger wants.

CB – Per Mertesacker

Currently away with the German national team at the 2014 World Cup, the centre-back put any doubts about his credentials to bed last season.

The 29-year-old formed one half of a brilliant defensive partnership and that success looks only set to continue as time goes on.

CB – Laurent Koscielny

Alongside the German is a France international who compliments his partner perfectly, adding the technique and touch to Mertesacker’s physicality and strength.

Koscielny is probably the more gifted of the two players, but together they are arguably the best duo in the whole of the English top flight.

LB – Kieran Gibbs

When Gael Clichy left the Emirates Stadium for Man City Wenger showed how much faith in had in this youth product by stating no new left-back would need to be purchased.

That is now paying off as Gibbs has developed into a fine defender and if he can stay fit should be the club’s first choice for years to come.

CM – Lars Bender

A player the North Londoners have been interested in for some time as protection is needed for the more creative players in the form of a holding midfielder.

Bender has previously stated he is unsure whether he wants to leave current side Bayer Leverkusen or not, but a deal is reported to be edging nearer.

CM – Aaron Ramsey

After previously struggling with a serious leg break and the wrath of the fans for his apparent under-performing, Ramsey proved his critics wrong in 2013/14 with his displays.

The Welshman was scoring freely and was arguably the club’s best player despite missing a large chunk of the season due to injury.

RM – Theo Walcott

After injuring his cruciate ligament and therefore being sidelined for some time it’s natural that Walcott has drifted out of many peoples’ conscience.

However, the Englishman brings so much to the team and although would prefer to play as a striker, his pace and trickery down the right flank is invaluable.

CAM – Mesut Ozil

A club record signing by some way after joining from Real Madrid in a £42.4m transfer in 2013, many are still unsure if the Germany international has lived up to that price-tag.

That being said the 25-year-old undeniably possesses talent and has shown at the World Cup that his teamwork is second to none.

LM – Alexis Sanchez

Completing a formidable and certainly offensive three man attacking midfield is this Chilean, who will arrive from Barcelona looking to prove a point.

Sanchez has endured three years of frustration at the Nou Camp since a 2011 switch from Udinese and the 25-year-old has bags of goals and assists in his locker.

ST – Olivier Giroud

With such a plethora of talent at his disposal Wenger has to make a tough call and drop someone and we think Santi Cazorla will be the man to be sacrificed.

Although Giroud is an often mocked figure, his 16 league strikes last term proved the Frenchman has talent and he offers something unique to the team.
