Manchester United And Chelsea Feature Among The Highest Scoring Clubs At The 2014 World Cup

The 10 clubs with the most goals at the tournament in Brazil.

Following Argentina’s penalty shootout victory over Netherlands on Wednesday there is now just one match remaining in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

In what is being billed as the most exciting World Cup ever seen there has already been 171 goals from some of the best players on the planet.

So CaughtOffside has decided to find out just where those strikes have come from and which clubs have the most scorers ahead of the final on Sunday between the Argentinians and Germany.

9=. Wolfsburg – 4 goals

Scorers: Ivan Perisic (2), Kevin de Bruyne (Belgium), Ivica Olic (Croatia).

This is the final total for the Bundesliga outfit with no more of their players left in the competition and three of their four goals have come from Croatia internationals in the shape of Perisic and Olic.

9=. FC Porto – 4 goals

Scorers: Jackson Martinez (Colombia) (2), Juan Quintero (Colombia), Silvestre Varela (Portugal).

The Portuguese club have a great tradition of developing relatively unknown players into global stars – particularly those from South America – and two scorers from Colombia is an example of this.

7=. Paris Saint-German – 5 goals

Scorers: David Luiz (Brazil) (2), Edinson Cavani (Uruguay), Blaise Matuidi (France), Thiago Silva (Brazil).

Up next is the super-rich Ligue 1 champions, who’s latest £40m signing Luiz tops their scoring charts with two strikes – although could do little about the 7-1 thrashing from Germany on Tuesday.

7=. Napoli – 5 goals

Scorers: Pablo Armero (Colombia), Blerim Dzemaili (Switzerland), Gonzalo Higuain (Argentina), Dries Mertens (Belgium), Eduardo Vargas (Chile).

With five different scorers the Naples club like to spread things out and Higuain’s nation are still left in the competition and therefore the striker could add to this tally.

6. AS Monaco – 6 goals

Scorer: James Rodriguez (Colombia) (6).

The current leader for the Golden Boot is Monaco’s only scoring representative on this list and they must be pleased that the 22-year-old was one of the standout performers at the tournament.

4=. Real Madrid – 7 goals

Scorers: Karim Benzema (France) (3), Xabi Alonso (Spain), Angel di Maria (Argentina), Sami Khedira (Germany), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal).

The Champions League holders have a good mix of scorers represented, although it’s perhaps a surprise that 2014 Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo managed just the one strike.

4=. Chelsea – 7 goals

Scorers: Andre Schurrle (Germany) (3), Oscar (Brazil) (2), Romelu Lukaku (Belgium), Fernando Torres (Spain).

With three goals already, including two fine strikes during the rout of the Brazilians, forward Schurrle is the leader for the Blues and could well get some more in the final judging by the form of the German.

3. Manchester United – 8 goals

Scorers: Robin van Persie (Netherlands) (3), Marouane Fellaini (Belgium), Javier Hernandez (Mexico), Juan Mata (Spain), Nani (Portugal), Wayne Rooney (England).

Just sneaking ahead of their Premier League rivals is the Red Devils, although the elimination of the Dutch on Wednesday means the club have no players left in Brazil.

2. FC Barcelona – 10 goals

Scorers: Lionel Messi (Argentina) (4), Neymar (Brazil) (4), Alexis Sanchez (Chile) (2).

Barca’s 10 goals are spread out across just three scorers, with the trio of South Americans all impressing at the World Cup and Messi having the chance of establishing himself as one of the all-time greats with international triumph.

1. Bayern Munich – 17 goals

Scorers: Thomas Muller (Germany) (5), Arjen Robben (Netherlands) (3), Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland) (3), Toni Kroos (Germany) (2), Mario Mandzukic (Croatia) (2), Julian Green (USA), Mario Goetze (Germany).

Yet way out in front is the German champions and they support their national team with a strong contingent here, whilst although Mandzukic is set to complete a move to Atletico Madrid the striker is currently still on the books at the Allianz Arena.
