Arsenal’s new signing Alexis Sanchez cost the club £35m, but he only gets in to the most expensive ever Premier League side in a joint position with the dearest English footballer of all time!

Here’s the XI, in all its glory:

GK) David de Gea – £19m

The Spaniard moved from Atletico Madrid to Manchester United in 2011, and following a shaky start, has established himself as one of the best keepers in the top flight.

DR) Glen Johnson – £18m

Liverpool acquired the Englishman from Portsmouth in 2009, and although he’s been criticised at times for his lack of defensive acumen, he’s been one of the first names on the team sheet for Rafa Benitez, Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and now Brendan Rodgers.

DC) Rio Ferdinand – £30m

Leeds sold Ferdinand to Manchester United back in 20o2, and although the transfer fee was enormous, it was worth it – with the centre-back winning six Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford.

DC) Joleon Lescott – £22m

Lescott’s deal was slightly more expensive than David Luiz’s to Chelsea, which cost the Blues £21m. Lescott was undeniably overpriced, and he’s left on a free this summer to join West Brom.

DL) Luke Shaw -£27m (potentially rising to £31m)

The most expensive teenager in the history of football, the left-back completed a move to Old Trafford from Southampton earlier this summer.

MC) Fernandinho -£30m

City secured the Brazilian battler last summer for big bucks, and he went on to secure a Premier League title in his debut season at the Etihad.

MC) Mesut Ozil – £42.4m

Arsenal’s blockbuster deal was completed on deadline day last summer, with the German playmaker arriving from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

MC) Juan Mata – £37.1m

Manchester United paid Chelsea huge money for the Spaniard in January 2014, and after a slow start – he began to pay back part of the fee towards the end of last season.

FC) Sergio Aguero – £38m

The brilliant Argentine remains City’s most expensive player, joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011, and winning City the title in his debut season with a last minute strike.

FC) Alexis Sanchez/Andy Carroll – £35m

The Gunners have secured the talented Chilean this week, while Liverpool signed Carroll in 2011. Arsenal will hope their new forward is more successful than Liverpool’s biggest ever flop!

FC) Fernando Torres – £50m

Still the most expensive player in British football, Chelsea have lived to regret the Torres deal, with the Spaniard scoring the lowly sum of 20 Premier League goals three and a half seasons.
