Now that Luis Suarez has moved to Barcelona for an earth shattering £75m, the ’10 most expensive players off all time’ list has had to be revamped!
Here’s how it now looks, with the maverick striker slotting in at no.3.

10) Zinedine Zidane – £46m
Probably the greatest player of his generation, Zidane won the World Cup and European Championships with France, earning himself a monster move to Real Madrid, where he famously scored the winner in the 2002 Champions League final.
9) Fernando Torres – £50m
The most expensive British transfer signing to date, Torres is still with Chelsea despite failing since his transfer from Liverpool in 2011.
8) Falcao – £51m
The Colombian hitman became Monaco’s marquee signing last summer, when he arrived from Atletico Madrid. Injuries curtailed his debut campaign, however.
7) Edinson Cavani – £55m
The Uruguayan powerhouse moved to PSG from Napoli last summer, but despite the whopping fee, he hasn’t even been allowed to play in his preferred centre-forward position.

Kaka became the world’s most expensive player when he moved to Real Madrid from AC Milan in 2009, but it’s fair to say he never lived up to the whopping fee.
5) Zlatan Ibrahimovic – £59m
Barcelona acquired Ibrahimovic from Inter Milan in a deal that saw Samuel Eto’o move the other way – but unlike at all his other clubs, the giant Swede failed to establish himself as a star player.
4) Neymar – £71m
Barcelona originally claimed that Neymar cost £48.6m, but the club was later forced to admit that they actually paid £71m for the Brazilian prodigy, reported here.
3) Luis Suarez – £75m*
The Uruguayan superstar has completed the mammoth deal to Barcelona from Liverpool after months of speculation.
* The Mirror here reports that the fee is £75m, although Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claims the fee is actually €81m, or £64m, roughly. This would still make Suarez the 3rd most expensive player of all time.

The Portuguese legend has more than paid back his transfer fee already, scoring 252 goals in 246 games since his move from Manchester United.

Bale became the world’s most expensive ever footballer last summer, when Los Blancos shelled out an astronomical £86m for his services. He played a key role in the Spanish giants winning the Champions League during his debut campaign.
