Liverpool Close In On Five More Summer Signings In £79m Spree

Anfield side closing in on five further summer signings having already completed three deals.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has already completed deals to sign Rickie Lambert, Emre Can and Adam Lallana but it appears he has many more new additions up his sleeve.

The Daily Star claims that five more players are closing in on Anfield switches.

Having banked £75m from the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona it’s clear that the club’s American owners are keen to hand those funds to Rodgers to help boost his squad ahead of their return to Champions League action.

Divock Origi (Lille) £11m

This source claims that moves to bring in the 19 year old Belgian are pretty much done and dusted with only the ‘formalities’ left to be completed.

Origi had a standout campaign at Lille last term and then impressed at the World Cup, scoring the winner against Russia, with an £11m deal to join Liverpool on the cards.

By all accounts such a deal will see Origi immediately loaned back to Lille, who will no doubt keen to have the youngster on board as they also have a Champions League campaign to plan for.

Origi will certainly help to boost the Liverpool attack and is surely a better ‘back-up’ option than the likes of Iago Aspas and Fabio Borini and will provide an option out wide, where loaned in Chelsea man Victor Moses failed to impress last term.

Lazar Markovic (Benfica) £20m

The signing of the Serbian is also said to be a ‘formality’ and will offer something of a wide-attacking option as well as helping to continue Liverpool’s push for a youthful transfer policy.

Markovic had a solid first campaign in Portugal, playing his part in Benfica’s Primeira Liga title winning campaign and their run to the Europa League final.

The 20 year old won’t come cheap but is considered one of the hottest prospects in European football so Rodgers will hope it’s a calculated risk worth taking.

Ben Davies (Swansea City) £10m

Brendan Rodgers is apparently ready to raid his former Liberty Stadium side and will look to the young Welsh international to act as a replacement for last season’s first-choice left-back Jose Enrique.

The Spaniard missed most of the season through injury and whilst England man John Flanagan impressed it’s likely he will switch to his most comfortable position at right-back, giving national team colleague Glen Johnson a run for his money.

Liverpool will battle Tottenham in the race for Davies, who has matured into a very accomplished performer.

Wilfried Bony (Swansea City) £20m

With Suarez on his way Rodgers will need to boost his attack and is apparently keen on the Ivory Coast international, who’s 25 goal return last term has also once again attracted the attention of Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Bony may well be tempted by a move to a side at the right end of the Premier League and the fact that Liverpool can offer Champions League action may well give the Anfield side the edge in the pursuit of the 25 year old.

One does wonder whether Bony would work well alongside Daniel Sturridge?

Dejan Lovren (Southampton) £18m

Martin Skrtel was his usual reliable self last term but on the whole Liverpool were very leaky at the back and the likes of Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Agger all failed to impress alongside the Slovakian, hence Rodgers interest in Saints star Lovren.

Having seen Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana move to Liverpool the Croatian may well be keen on following his former St Mary’s team-mates to Anfield and some sources quote the 24 year old centre-back as being very keen to make just such a move.

Lovren was very assured in his debut season in the Premier League and could be the ideal man to line-up alongside uncompromising defender Skrtel.
