Manchester United Rumour Roundup: £40m Arturo Vidal Deal Close, Angel Di Maria Says No And Future Of Class Of ’92 In Doubt

The biggest transfer stories of the day involving the Red Devils.

Manchester United closing in on £40m deal for Arturo Vidal

New manager Louis van Gaal is confident of landing top transfer target Vidal from Juventus after positive talks with the £40m rated midfielder, according to the Metro.

The club are said to have spoken with the 27-year-old’s agent Fernando Felicevich and his client is thought to be keen on a move to Old Trafford, despite Juve being unwilling to sell.

Vidal would set the Red Devils back around £40m, with wages of £230,000-a-week on top of that, but as arguably the best box-to-box midfielder in the world currently the Chile international appears to be worth it.

Angel di Maria is also valued at £40m, but wants to play Champions League football

Another high profile target for United is Real Madrid star di Maria, but their pursuit of the Argentine has hit a stumbling block due to their lack of top European football next season.

The Mirror reports that whilst the 26-year-old is likely to leave the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu this summer the midfielder is keen to continue playing Champions League football.

Di Maria has entered a stalemate with Madrid over contract talks and both Paris Saint-Germain and Juve have also shown interest in the South American.

Chelsea and the Red Devils go head-to-head for the £20m signing of Alex Song

However, there is more positive news for the club in the pursuit of former Arsenal ace Song, with the FC Barcelona exodus set to continue with the sale of the Cameroon international.

Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo reports that the Catalans are willing to sell the 26-year-old for £20m this summer after he has failed to truly settle at the Nou Camp following a 2012 switch from the Gunners.

The Red Devils will face strong competition for Song though, with the Blues, Inter Milan, Napoli and Olympique Marseille also thought to be interested.

New £27m left-back Luke Shaw cuts holiday short to return to pre-season training early

Having completed a lucrative move from Southampton, new signing Shaw is keen to impress his new manager by cutting short his holiday by a week to return to pre-season training early, reports the Independent.

The 18-year-old was given three weeks off following his involvement at the 2014 World Cup with England, but decided to arrive at Carrington just 15 days after returning from Brazil.

Van Gaal is not currently at the training ground due to his own involvement in South America with the Netherlands national team, with assistant Ryan Giggs in charge of things until his arrival.

The futures of Nicky Butt, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes at Old Trafford are all in doubt

Finally, although Giggs’ position in the van Gaal regime is confirmed, the futures of his Class of ’92 teammates Butt, Neville and Scholes remains in doubt.

The Manchester Evening News reports how the club legends may not have a role under the Dutchman due to arrival of his own staff at the Theatre of Dreams.

Butt has admitted that he has not yet spoken to van Gaal and is currently in the dark about whether he or Neville and Scholes are wanted by the 62-year-old.
