The Five Best Manchester United Players At The 2014 World Cup Including Expensive Disaster, RVP And Wayne Rooney

The best Red Devils stars at the tournament in Brazil.

On Sunday the 2014 World Cup in Brazil will come to its conclusion as Germany take on Argentina in the final of arguably the greatest tournament to date.

As always Manchester United have had a number of stars on display at the competition and here are the five best.

5. Marouane Fellaini, Belgium

May have had something of a disastrous first year at Old Trafford following a £27.5m switch from Everton, but Fellaini showed what all the fuss had been about at the World Cup… sort of.

The goal the midfielder netted against Algeria in the Belgians’ opener was a fine finish and the 27-year-old was ever present in Marc Wilmots’ team from then onwards.

4. Wayne Rooney, England

May have gotten plenty of crictism from the English press following the opening game defeat to Italy, but that is perhaps more to do with the expectation on Rooney as opposed to his actual performance.

The 28-year-old did set up Daniel Sturridge in that match with a fine pass and then also netted against Uruguay in what turned out to be another 2-1 defeat and an early exit.

3. Javier Hernandez, Mexico

Didn’t actual start any games for his nation, but in the mould of United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the striker is developing into something of a super sub.

Hernandez scored against Croatia in a 3-1 win that sent his side through to the last-16, although in what is becoming something of a curse for his nation they inevitably couldn’t progress any further.

2. Patrice Evra, France

May be on the periphery of the Red Devils team now and is looking like completing a transfer to Juventus, but for the French the left-back is still key.

This was a vast improvement for the 33-year-old from four years ago, where Evra was one of the key figures blamed for the fallout in the national team camp.

1. Robin van Persie, Netherlands

Yet out in front is a forward who is sure to be happy that Louis van Gaal is taking over as manager at the Theatre of Dreams having flourished under him for the Dutch team.

Van Persie netted three goals at the tournament, including a brilliant header that helped van Gaal’s side beat reigning champions Spain 5-1 in their opener.
