Barcelona’s Most Expensive Ever Sales With Premier League New Boys Alexis Sanchez And Cesc Fabregas Featuring

The most money the Catalan giants have ever received for their players.

Although FC Barcelona confirmed the £75m purchase of Liverpool superstar Luis Suarez on Friday, the Catalans have also been busy in the sales department this summer.

Both Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez have left the Nou Camp in big money moves to the Premier League, joining Chelsea and Arsenal respectively, and the duo also feature in Barca’s five most expensive ever sales.

Here is the list in full, as reported by Spanish daily Marca.

5. Zlatan Ibrahimovic to AC Milan, 2011 – £19m

Having signed the Swede for £40m plus Samuel Eto’o just two years earlier this hardly serves as a good piece of business, but the striker had to be sacrificed after falling out with talismanic head coach Pep Guardiola.

There is still bad blood between the pair and although Ibrahimovic failed to succeed in Spain, since then then the 32-year-old has proven himself to be among the best players on the planet.

4. Ronaldo to Inter Milan, 1997 – £20.4m

A huge fee at the time, the Brazilian would go onto be considered one of the finest strikers ever after winning the 2002 World Cup and netting 15 goals in total at four different tournaments.

Ronaldo would return to La Liga in 2002 upon joining Barca’s ‘El Clasico’ rivals Real Madrid as part of their ‘Galaticos’ policy at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

3. Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea, 2014 – £28.6m

Formerly the captain of the Gunners, the 27-year-old has made his return to England following three frustrating years in Catalonia with his boyhood club.

Fabregas made his name in North London and prompted his former side to buy him back for £29m in 2011, but the Spain international never truly established himself and is now back in the English capital.

2. Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal, 2014 – £33.4m

As frustrated as fans at the Emirates Stadium were upon seeing their former skipper join their city rivals, the blow was cushioned when they secured their own Barca ace.

Like Fabregas this Chile international joined the Catalans in 2011 and found game time hard to come by and is now looking to reinvigorate his career under Arsene Wenger’s guidance.

1. Luis Figo to Real Madrid, 2000 – £47.7m

Still one of the most controversial deals ever the Portugal legend made the switch from the Nou Camp to the Bernabeu at the start of the century in what was then a world record deal.

Like Ronaldo, Figo was part of a ‘Galaticos’ team that enjoyed great success, with Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, Raul and Roberto Carlos also among the key figures of the time.
