Liverpool Transfers: Luis Suarez Is Irreplaceable Says Club Legend, Although £44m Alternative Marco Reus Is Wanted Along With Five Others

The biggest stories of the day for the Reds.

Liverpool ready to offer £44m for Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus

The sale of Luis Suarez to FC Barcelona on Friday could see the Reds move ahead in the chase to sign Germany international Reus, according to the Daily Express.

The 25-year-old saw his own chances at heading to the Nou Camp scuppered by the purchase of Suarez and now the attacker is weighing up his options.

Brendan Rodgers’ side meanwhile would be keen to bring in a world-class addition such as Reus to help cushion the blow of losing their top-scorer from last season.

Yet club legend Jamie Carragher says Suarez is irreplaceable

The former defender and vice-captain of the club says that finding a replacement for the £75m Uruguay international is going to be nigh on impossible.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Carragher said; ““It will obviously be very difficult to replace Luis Suarez.

“Maybe only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been above him over the last few years, so chances of finding someone better are very slim.”

Defensive target Dejan Lovren returns to Southampton training despite threatening to go on strike

The Merseysiders have had their eye on this Croatian for some time and had a £20m bid for the centre-back turned down earlier this month.

Lovren was furious at that decision and is still desperate for a move to Anfield, but despite threatening to go on strike has returned for Saints pre-season training, according to the Daily Star.

Rodgers has not given up hope of signing the 25-year-old though and a deal could still well happen this summer.

Signing of Lazar Markovic will trigger five-man spending spree

Despite having already acquired Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can this summer and being on the verge of completing a £20m move for Benfica’s Markovic, spending is set to continue.

The Mirror reports that securing the Serbian will trigger no fewer than five more arrivals, with Swansea City trio Wilfried Bony, Ben Davies and Michel Vorm joined by Southampton’s Lovren and Jay Rodriguez.

Other options include Lille’s £10m striker Divock Origi, Alberto Moreno of Sevilla and QPR forward Loic Remy.

Stoke City still interested in signing Oussama Assaidi

After a successful 12 months on-loan at the Britannia Stadium the Potteries haven’t yet given up hope of signing Assaidi permanently, according to the Mirror.

The Reds winger is likely to be sold this summer after making just four Premier League appearances in 2012/13 following his move to England from Heerenveen.

The club want £7m for the Morocco international – which initially deterred Stoke – but now the Staffordshire side are reconsidering their position.
