Conte has just won three Scudettos on the bounce but announced his resignation on Tuesday after falling out with the club’s hierarchy over their transfer plans for the coming season as they sought to sell the likes of Arturo Vidal against his will.

Evra, who looked set to play second fiddle to £30m new-boy Luke Shaw at Old Trafford this season, had been given Louis Van Gaal’s blessing to join the Serie A champions this summer despite penning a one-year extension in May.

His move to Turin seemed all wrapped up, with only a medical to pass and the forms to sign, but the Frenchman could now look to pull out of the deal after Conte’s resignation.

The 33-year-old had been keen to see who replaced the former Italian international at the helm, which was later revealed to be ex-Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri.

However, it is still unclear as to whether Allegri is keen on taking Evra on board.
