Power Ranking The Top 10 Premier League Transfers Of The Summer Featuring Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez And Liverpool Ace

The best of the deals into the English top tier to date.

Despite the fact the summer transfer window has been open for less than three weeks for Premier League clubs, there has already been plenty of business completed.

So CaughtOffside has decided to do a power ranking of the 10 best deals that have been confirmed so far – note this is judged on value for money, how important the individual is likely to be for the club and prominence of the transfer.

10. Bacary Sagna, Arsenal to Manchester City

Admittedly the Citizens were probably less in need of a new right-back than other sides due to the presence of Pablo Zabaleta, but landing a player of Sagna’s quality on a free transfer has to be considered a good deal.

However, with a lucrative three-year contract awarded to the 31-year-old things could turn a little expensive in the coming years.

9. Bafetimbi Gomis, Olympique Lyon to Swansea City

As a France international and a striker with a proven pedigree, the Swans have done well to attract Gomis to the Liberty Stadium and once again as a free agent the Frenchman is much less of a gamble.

With the future of Wilfried Bony uncertain and Michu almost certain to leave, this 28-year-old could be tasked with leading the line.

8. Fernando, FC Porto to Manchester City

Hardly a glamourous signing for City in what has been a relatively quiet period in the market by their standards, but defensive midfield is a crucial position to fill properly.

At £12m the Brazilian is reasonably priced and he could well play as significant a role as fellow countryman Fernandinho did last term.

7. Lazar Markovic, Benfica to Liverpool

Many could be forgiven for not having heard of this 20-year-old, but the noises coming out of Portugal praising the attacking midfielder suggests that at £20m the Reds have a bargain.

It could take some time for the youngster to develop, but Brendan Rodgers is among the best coaches around for getting the best out of raw talent.

6. Remy Cabella, Montpellier to Newcastle United

Having signed just Loic Remy on-loan from QPR last summer, it’s a totally different story this time around for the Magpies who have already secured five new faces.

The pick of the bunch has to be Cabella, who has been bought to fill the creative midfield role vacated by Yohan Cabaye in January when the Frenchman joined Paris Saint-Germain.

5. Ander Herrera, Athletic Bilbao to Manchester United

Admittedly many may suggest that £29m for a 24-year-old who can’t get into the Spain squad currently is steep, but expect Herrera’s international fortunes to change once he’s strutting his stuff at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard is expected to bring the creativity in the middle for United that was so desperately lacking last season.

4. Diego Costa, Atletico Madrid to Chelsea

At £32m it would be difficult to describe Costa as a bargain, but if the 25-year-old can replicate his form for Atleti last year for the Blues, then it will be smiles all round at Stamford Bridge.

The striker netted 36 times in all competitions in 2013/14 as his team won La Liga and reached their first ever Champions League final.

3. Luke Shaw, Southampton to Manchester United

At £27m the left-back is hardly a steal, but in terms of his age (19) and future potential the money could well prove to be worth it.

With Patrice Evra’s future at the Red Devils uncertain expect Shaw to be in the first team with immediate effect and learning on the biggest stage.

2. Cesc Fabregas, FC Barcelona to Chelsea

As the former captain of Arsenal and considered to be one of the best midfielders ever to grace the division, the West Londoners are almost certain they have a hit on their hands here.

At 27-years-old Fabregas still has plenty of game time ahead of him as well and could prove to be a success in England once again.

1. Alexis Sanchez, FC Barcelona to Arsenal

Top of the pile though and it has to be a Chile international who dazzled at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and also had a pretty good record for Barca.

The Catalans’ capture of Luis Suarez meant Sanchez’s days were numbered however and although the 25-year-old cost £35m, he will bring a dynamism and unique style to Arsene Wenger’s attack.
