How Liverpool’s Starting XI Could Look In 2014/15 With New £59m Signings And No Luis Suarez

The Reds will take on a new look next term.

It’s been a busy summer of transfer business so far for Liverpool, with four new additions and the high profile sale of Luis Suarez to FC Barcelona.

The new faces are made up by Southampton duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana, Emre Can of Bayer Leverkusen and Benfica’s Lazar Markovic, arriving for a combined fee of £59m.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is also in the market for a new left-back and possibly a central defender and another striker, with Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno reported by the Daily Express as an expected new arrival.

So here is what the Reds starting XI could look like in 2014/15.

GK – Simon Mignolet

Arrived from Sunderland in a £9m deal last summer and despite a promising start saw his form drop as the season went on and the Belgian still has much to prove between the sticks.

RB – Glen Johnson

Having failed to impress with England at the 2014 World Cup and often with his club, Johnson will need to stay sharp or will see himself being replaced by fine youngster Jon Flanagan.

CB – Martin Skrtel

The only centre-back who consistently remained in Rodgers’ team last term, Skrtel was guilty of lacking concentration at times and will need to improve on that this time around.

CB – Mamadou Sakho

Signed from Paris Saint-Germain 12 months ago for £18m, the France international lacked consistency, but showed enough to suggest he could be a top-class centre-back in the near future.

LB – Alberto Moreno

With Jose Enrique injured for much of the last campaign and Aly Cissokho failing to impress during a loan spell from Valencia, a new left-back remains a priority and this young Spaniard remains the preferred choice.

CM – Steven Gerrard

Now aged 34-years-old the captain has had to adapt his game to operate in a deeper role and like Juventus superstar Andrea Pirlo is developing into a fine playmaker in front of the back four.

CM – Jordan Henderson

After struggling during his first two years at Anfield, the former Black Cats midfielder finally came good last season and Henderson looks to be improving with every game he plays.

RM – Raheem Sterling

Finally seems to have put his nerves behind him and over the past year the 19-year-old has grown into perhaps the most exciting talent in English football and proved that at the World Cup.

CAM – Philippe Coutinho

Another youngster at the club and someone who is continuing to develop due to the faith put in him by Rodgers and if he can add a shooting proficiency to his game could be one of the finest attacking midfielders in the division.

LM – Adam Lallana

A new £25m arrival and whilst many think the 26-year-old was too expensive at that price, over the past two years in the top flight the midfielder has been among the finest in the country.

ST – Daniel Sturridge

The departure of Suarez to the Nou Camp means even more scoring responsibility will fall on this 24-year-old’s shoulders, but Sturridge appears to be in the form of his life currently.
