Luis Suarez And Alexis Sanchez Both Feature In The Top 10 Most Expensive Transfers Of The Summer So Far

The biggest deals completed ahead of the 2014/15 season.

It has already been an exciting transfer window in the summer of 2014, with the biggest clubs in Europe spending high fees for the best talent in the game.

Here CaughtOffside takes a look at the most expensive deals that have been confirmed so far ahead of the 2014/15 season.

10. Lazar Markovic – Benfica to Liverpool, £20m

There is much hype in Portugal surrounding this 20-year-old attacking midfielder, but in England many think it seems a little steep for a Serbia international with very little top flight experience.

9. Toni Kroos – Bayern Munich to Real Madrid, £20m

Completed his move to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday having won the 2014 World Cup with Germany on the Sunday and was snapped up for a cut-price fee due to the fact the midfielder was in the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena.

8. Adam Lallana – Southampton to Liverpool, £25m

Long been linked with the Reds and along with Markovic is one of four new faces at Anfield so far this summer, with Lallana in good company with his former Saints teammate Rickie Lambert and Emre Can has also joined from Bayer Leverkusen.

7. Luke Shaw – Southampton to Manchester United, £27m

Became the most expensive teenager of all time when the Red Devils finally landed their man following a long pursuit and if Shaw can live up to the expectations of him this could turn out to be a bargain.

6. Ander Herrera – Athletic Bilbao to Manchester United, £28.9m

It was a busy couple of days for United as the day before Shaw was signed this Spaniard also put pen to paper on a deal at Old Trafford, 12 months on from when the 13-time Premier League champions had first tried to sign him.

5. Cesc Fabregas – FC Barcelona to Chelsea, £30m

Another midfielder who was plying his trade in La Liga now and after a three-year absence in Spain following his move from Arsenal in 2011, Fabregas is back in London once again and looking to impress.

4. Diego Costa – Atletico Madrid to Chelsea, £32m

Jose Mourinho was not happy with his options upfront during his first year back at Stamford Bridge in 2013/14 and having scored 36 goals for Atleti in all competitions last season, the manager is hoping Costa is the solution.

3. Alexis Sanchez – FC Barcelona to Arsenal, £35m

Having spent £42.4m on Mesut Ozil in 2013 the Gunners were moved to splash the cash once again this time around and have snapped up this impressive Chile international.

2. David Luiz – Chelsea to Paris Saint-Germain, £40m

Mourinho was never a particular fan of the 27-year-old and after a somewhat disastrous World Cup campaign with Brazil, the Blues must be fairly pleased with this deal.

1. Luis Suarez – Liverpool to FC Barcelona, £75m

Top of the pile though and it’s the third most expensive transfer of all-time, as despite the fact Suarez is currently serving a four-month ban for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini, the Catalans were moved to pay this colossal sum for the Uruguay international.
