United among four clubs chasing Everton star

Manchester United are one of four clubs chasing Everton and England youngster Ross Barkley, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The 20-year-old midfielder was one of the outstanding performers for the Toffees last season, enjoying a superb breakthrough campaign for the club and earning a call-up to England’s squad for the 2014 World Cup.

Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in Barkley, as are Everton’s local rivals Liverpool, though an injury to United midfielder Michael Carrick could see them step up their efforts to sign the player.

Van Gaal eyes raid for Dutch defender

Louis van Gaal could look to bring one of the members of his Netherlands squad, Daley Blind, to Manchester United this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The versatile Ajax defender had an impressive World Cup for the Dutch national side, setting up one of the goals of the tournament for United striker Robin van Persie in their country’s 5-1 thrashing of Spain.

United could be in need of further options at left-back if Patrice Evra leaves the club, while Blind can also fill several other roles, including defensive midfield.

West Ham keep tabs on United duo

United could be set to make something of a clear-out this summer, and West Ham United may be ready to pounce as they keep tabs on both Ashley Young and Wilfried Zaha.

The two wingers have been in disappointing form of late, and the Daily Mail claims that the Hammers would be ready to snap them up if they became available in this transfer window.

Young has been off form for the last couple of years now, while Zaha struggled to make the first-team for the Red Devils last season after arriving from Crystal Palace.

Manchester City star rejects audacious United offer

Want-away Manchester City star Yaya Toure has rejected a surprise approach from rivals Manchester United, according to the Daily Star.

United are on the lookout for further signings in midfield and made a cheeky attempt to lure the unsettled Ivory Coast international to Old Trafford as he considers his options for next season.

However, the 31-year-old seems intent on joining Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain instead, and will not make the move across to the red half of Manchester.

Red Devils legend to join coaching staff

New United manager Louis van Gaal is said to be keen on adding club legend Paul Scholes to his coaching staff for next season, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The former midfielder was one of the all-time greats for the club as a player, but has moved into coaching after his retirement from the game last summer.

Another ex-player in Ryan Giggs is currently the assistant to van Gaal, and the Dutchman could keep the strong core of United legends at the club by appointing Scholes as well.
