Ron Vlaar could replace defender Nemanja Vidic at Old Trafford

Paul McGrath, a former Manchester United and Aston Villa defender, believes that current Villa centre-back Ron Vlaar could be a suitable replacement for Nemanja Vidic at Old Trafford.

Talk Sport have reported McGrath’s comments, with the former Republic of Ireland international saying: “Man United’s defence is an area which could do with strengthening. They have lost Vidic, Ferdinand and probably Evra.

“With Luke Shaw coming in, it’s going to be a very young and inexperienced defence. I’m hoping he’ll [Louis van Gaal] bring in a good experienced defender. Rob Vlaar would be on that list.”

West Ham United eye loan moves for Manchester United pair

West Ham United are eyeing up loan moves for Manchester United duo Ashley Young and Wilfried Zaha, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

Zaha was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last signing before he retired in 2013, but rarely featured under former United boss David Moyes, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff City.

Young endured a difficult season for United, scoring just twice in 20 Premier League games under Moyes, and both players could find themselves heading out of Old Trafford in the near future.

United preparing a move for “the next Xavi” – Sergi Roberto

The Daily Mirror are reporting – via press in France – that Manchester United are interested in Barcelona starlet Sergi Roberto.

The 22-year-old is a graduate of the club’s famous academy and has been touted as a potential successor to the experienced Spaniard, Xavi Hernandez, who has been with the Catalans since 1998.

However, Roberto made just one start in La Liga last season and is keen to play more first-team football to aid his development.

Patrice Evra among the players left out of US Tour

Patrice Evra is among several Manchester United stars that have been left out of the club’s pre-season tour of the US, fueling speculation linking him with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

Anderson, Bebe and Javier Hernandez were also left out – as revealed by the Daily Mirror.

Evra has been strongly linked with a move to Juventus this summer, following the arrival of fellow left-back Luke Shaw from Southampton, and this could be the latest indication that he is on his way out of Manchester.

Vidal still uncertain on future

The Daily Mirror have also reported the latest on long-term Manchester United target Arturo Vidal.

Vidal has admitted he knows of interest from Manchester United – but is still uncertain over what his future holds. Despite the Serie A champions reportedly being willing to sell – and United denying making an offer – the Chilean claims he is aware of their overtures.

“I’ve heard of interest from Real [Madrid], from [Manchester] United, but that’s for someone else to worry about. Perhaps I will stay the rest of my life at Juventus. When I arrive in Italy, I’ll talk with the coach and we’ll see what happens. Right now the only thing I know is that I have seven or eight days of holiday left.”
