Fabio Borini deal is in the balance

Liverpool’s sale of Italian striker Fabio Borini is still very much in the balance, according to reports in the Guardian.

The Reds agreed a £14m deal with Sunderland yesterday, but the forward still played in his current club’s pre-season fixture against Preston on Saturday afternoon, and manager Brendan Rodgers admitted that the proposed deal is still some way away from being completed.

While reports that Borini has rejected the transfer out of hand are wide of the mark, Gus Poyet and Sunderland clearly have some persuading to do if they are to sell the idea of a long-term move to Wearside to a player who enjoyed a successful loan stint at the Stadium of Light last season.

Liverpool launch shock move for James Milner

The Daily Mirror have claimed that Liverpool are set to launch an extraordinary bid for Manchester City and England midfielder James Milner.

Reports emerged earlier this week that Milner was prepared to leave Manchester in order to guarantee himself first-team football, and the player was subsequently linked with several Premier League clubs.

However, it seems that Liverpool could now be the favourites for the players signature, with the Reds having made tentative inquires about City outcast Milner – and been encouraged by the response.

Reds closing in on Lovren and Remy

Two players also thought to be closing in on making the switch to Anfield are Southampton defender Dejan Lovren and QPR striker Loic Remy – according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

Rodgers moved a huge step closer to landing long-term target Lovren last night in a £20m deal, when the Saints decided to turn their attention to Aston Villa centre-back Ron Vlaar.

Meanwhile, Liverpool agreed an £8.5m deal for Remy yesterday, and are now thought to be closing in on an agreement with the player.

Fiorentina keeper Neto on Brendan Rodgers Radar

The Daily Mirror believes that Liverpool’s transfer spending spree is set to continue, with Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto also on the club’s radar.

The Brazilian stopper has emerged as a prime target now that talks with Swansea City over the Dutch international Michel Vorm have ground to a halt.

Neto, 25, has just one year left on his contract and would provide stiff competition for Simon Mignolet, whose performances dipped towards the end of last season.

Wisdom to West Brom loan confirmed

Liverpool boss Rodgers has also confirmed that young defender Andre Wisdom will be completing a loan move to West Brom this season.

Reports on Sky Sports claim that West Brom are in the market for a new right-back after seeing Billy Jones and Steven Reid leave the Hawthorns this summer, and they have moved to agree a deal for England Under 21 international Wisdom.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 2-1 pre-season win over Preston, Rodgers confirmed Wisdom was set to link up with the Baggies: “After today, Andre is going to go on loan to West Brom. He had a very successful period at Derby last year, he did very well under Steve McClaren. He now has the opportunity to go to another very good coach in Alan Irvine, who I know from my youth days. He is an excellent coach and West Brom are an excellent club.”
