Who would be in your ultimate North London XI…

GK) Wojciech Szczesny or Hugo Lloris

The Tottenham stopper narrowly gets the nod in this battle of the goalkeepers. Both impressed last season, with Szczesny winning the Premier League’s golden glove – but Lloris is perhaps slightly more advanced in his development.

RB) Mathieu Debuchy or Kyle Walker

Another touch choice between Arsenal’s new signings and arguably England’s best right-back. Kyle Walker’s potential and attacking prowess see’s him edge just in front of Debuchy at this stage.

LB) Kieran Gibbs or Ben Davies

Gibbs has the ability to compete with Luke Shaw over the right to be England’s next left-back if he can stay injury-free, which has been a problem for him in the past. His experience in the big games gets him in front of Davies.

CB) Per Mertesacker or Jan Vertonghen

Not only Tottenham’s best defender, but arguably one of the best defenders in the Premier League – Jan Vertonghen has to be in this team, assuming of course that he does not end up at Barcelona this summer.

CB) Laurent Koscielny or Vlad Chiriches

A no contest, Tottenham were caught out numerous times last season for their lack of a second quality central defender, making Koscielny the obvious choice to partner Vertonghen at centre-half.

DM) Mikel Arteta or Étienne Capoue

For years he was one of the Premier League’s most underrated players, Arteta has thoroughly proved that he belongs in the Arsenal team, and he belongs in this team to in place of the inexperienced Capoue.

CM) Jack Wilshere or Paulinho

Wilshere’s development has stalled recently – not helped by a series of bad injuries. Paulinho had a mixed first season with Spurs and an uninspiring World Cup, but his ability is most definitely there.

CM) Aaron Ramsey or Mousa Dembele

Another no contest, Ramsey was Arsenal’s stand out player last season, while Dembele struggled with form and injuries. The Welshman is the obvious choice here.

AM) Alexis Sanchez or Erik Lamela

Two big-money signings go head to head, with Sanchez clearly getting the nod. The £35m signing from Barcelona has been in excellent form for club and country over the last year, while Lamela has struggled desperately.

AM) Mesut Ozil or Christian Eriksen

Perhaps the toughest choice of all, Ozil has the big reputation and the big price tag, but he was outshone by Eriksen last season – who was one of the few bright sparks in a very average Spurs season. Last year’s showing is enough to clinch it for the Dane.

ST) Olivier Giroud or Emmanuel Adebayor

A fairly simple choice to finish – Adebayor has undoubted ability, but his good performances are growing progressively more rare these days. The work rate of Giroud is enough to clinch him the striking berth.

Final Team (4-3-3 formation): Lloris; Walker, Gibbs, Vertonghen, Koscielny; Arteta, Paulinho, Ramsey; Eriksen, Sanchez, Giroud
