Who has done the best transfer business so far this summer…

10) Adam Lallana (Southampton to Liverpool, £25m)

It has been a meteoric rise for this 26-year-old, who has gone from playing in League 1 to the Champions League and the World Cup inside five years. It will be interesting to see whether he has reached his peak, or whether he can push on still further.

9) Ander Herrera (Athletic Bilbao to Manchester United, £28m)

At 24-years-old, Herrera has still not broken into the Spanish national team. While part of the reason for that is the standard of competition around him, it is worth remembering that Chelsea paid just £2m more for Cesc Fabregas.

8) Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid to Chelsea, £32m)

One of the top strikers in Europe last year, but he will have to prove that he is not just a one-season-wonder before we all start taking his £32m price tag seriously. After all, Chelsea have something of a bad record for signing big-money strikers.

7) Luke Shaw (Southampton to Manchester United, £30m)

Perhaps the best young left-back in the world. He is almost undoubtedly overpriced at £30m, but having only recently turned 19-years-old he could yet reward the Old Trafford side with 10, maybe even 15 years of service.

6) Lazar Markovic (Benfica to Liverpool, £20m)

A top talent who could be the cornerstone of Liverpool’s team for many years to come. The prospect of seeing a front-line consisting of Markovic, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling will give Reds fans renewed hope that there is life after Luis Suarez.

5) Luis Suarez (Liverpool to Barcelona, £75m)

At 27-years-old and with a four-month ban hanging over him, Barcelona will know that they have paid more than they would have liked for this Uruguayan striker. However, his undeniable talent still makes him one of the very best players in the world.

4) James Rodriguez (Monaco to Real Madrid, £63m)

Arguably the brightest young talent in world football, the prospect of seeing him link up with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale will have La Liga quaking in its boots. Certainly overpriced considering his indifferent form for Monaco last year, but his World Cup exploits prove what a future he has.

3) Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona to Chelsea, £30m)

Proven class and quality, Chelsea did a brilliant piece of business to bring him to Stamford Bridge, where he will help fill the void left by the departure of the iconic Frank Lampard. Slightly overpriced perhaps, but the Blues more than made up for that by selling David Luiz for £10m more to PSG – crazy money that.

2) Alexis Sanchez (Barcelona to Arsenal, £35m)

Successful in both Italy and Spain, he will need time to adjust to life in the Premier League, but at 25-years-old Arsenal will be hoping he is still a couple of years away from his peak. The big-money signing that Gunners fans were praying for.

1) Toni Kroos (Bayern Munich to Real Madrid, £24m)

One of only two players on this list to have won a World Cup, the winner of multiple trophies and awards in Germany and still only 24 years of age. At £24m he is a steal, and Madrid fans will be desperate to see their new man in action.
