The nature of the transfer window means that the big names are not only joining Premier League clubs, but also going the other way, with a number of big Premier League stars having been linked with moves away from their clubs this summer.

We’ve taken a look at the ten that could have the most significant impact, should their rumoured deals come to fruition.

Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal)

Despite officially being club captain, Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen looks set for a move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer, with Premier League rivals Manchester United being suggested as a potential destination.

The former Ajax man was initially a favourite with the Gunners but has fallen out of favour more recently as Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker have formed a strong central defensive pairing.

Paulinho (Tottenham Hotspur)

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho endured a decidedly sketchy first season at White Hart Lane after arriving from Brazil last summer, with Serie A champions Juventus already having been suggested as potentially offering him a way out of the club.

Javi Garcia (Manchester City)

With Manchester City having to balance the books to meet financial fair play regulations, following a string of summer signings, at least one big name player is going to have to leave the City of Manchester Stadium – and with Alvaro Negredo injured, it looks as though it will be Garcia who moves on.

Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea)

With the signings of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba having been confirmed by Chelsea, it now looks increasingly likely that young striker Romelu Lukaku will be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, with former loan club Everton mentioned as a likely destination for the Belgian.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (Newcastle United)

Newcastle United centre back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has struggled to settle at St. James’ Park since being brought to the club by Alan Pardew and looks set for a swift exit, with St. Etienne amongst the Ligue 1 clubs keen to take him back across the English Channel.

Daniel Agger (Liverpool)

Liverpool centre back Daniel Agger has become increasingly error prone over the last couple of seasons and, with Brendan Rodgers set to strengthen his defence, it looks as though the Dane will be moving on.

Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspur)

Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen has been one of Tottenham’s most important players since arriving from Ajax, putting in displays that have attracted the attention of La Liga giants Barcelona.

Despite this, new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is likely to view Vertonghen as a key part of his plans and will be keen to do all that he can to hold on to the player.

Nani (Manchester United)

Despite sporadic flashes of brilliance, Nani has never quite justified his early tag as the successor to Cristiano Ronaldo, becoming an increasingly bit-part player at Old Trafford.

It will be no surprise if the Portugal international moves on, then – potentially to Serie A champions Juventus.

Wilfried Bony (Swansea City)

Swansea City record signing Wilfried Bony justified the club’s huge outlay to Vitesse Arnhem last summer with a fine season for the South Wales club, putting in the performances and scoring the goals that have attracted a variety of potential suitors this summer.

Lucas Leiva (Liverpool)

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva’s spell at Anfield looks to be coming to an end, with the likes of Jordan Henderson taking on a more prominent role in the Liverpool midfield of late.

A host of Serie A clubs are believed to have joined the chase for Lucas – including fallen giants Inter Milan.
