Liverpool set to beat rivals to young striker

Liverpool look poised to complete the £12.5m signing of promising Belgian striker Divock Origi, ahead of rivals Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Daily Mirror.

The talented youngster, who impressed for Belgium at this summer’s World Cup, will be loaned back to his current club Lille for one season before linking up with the first-team squad at Anfield.

Origi’s representatives have been holding talks with the club during their pre-season tour in the US, and the player seems to have finally settled on joining Liverpool over other interested clubs.

Bayern Munich in surprise link to Reds misfit

Bayern Munich have been linked with a surprise move for Liverpool backup goalkeeper Pepe Reina in today’s Daily Mirror.

Manager Pep Guardiola is keen to bring in a substitute keeper as a reserve for current number one Manuel Neuer, and has seemingly identified Reina as a solid and affordable option.

The 31-year-old spent last season on loan with Napoli, who have been unable to strike a deal to sign him permanently, but it remains to be seen if he will be content to move to be a backup at Bayern when he is already second choice at his current club.

Manchester United back in for Liverpool target

Manchester United look set to revive their interest in Juventus midfielder and Liverpool target Arturo Vidal, according to the Daily Mirror.

Although the Chilean has previously hinted that he would not be interested in a move to Old Trafford, paving way for a sensational switch to Anfield, the Red Devils look set to try again for the Chilean, with a £35m bid to the Italian giants.

Like Liverpool, United have been desperate to make major signings in midfield this summer, and it should now be an intriguing transfer battle between the two rivals for this superb midfield player.

Reds winger’s Stoke move stalls

Liverpool are struggling to offload Moroccan winger Oussama Assaidi to Stoke City, with the player unable to agree a contract for a permanent move to the Potters, according to the Daily Express.

The 25-year-old had a successful loan spell with Mark Hughes’ side last season, scoring five goals, and has been linked with a £7m switch to the Britannia Stadium.

However, his excessive wage demands look to have put the move on hold, which will be a disappointment for Liverpool as they look to cull some of the deadwood from their squad.

Atletico beat Liverpool to French winger

Atletico Madrid look on the verge of pulling off a terrific signing with the purchase of Liverpool target Antoine Griezmann from Real Sociedad, according to AS.

The French winger has been linked with the Reds and a host of other top clubs this summer after a superb season for Sociedad, in which he scored 20 goals in all competitions from out wide.

Liverpool have been in the market for quality additions on the flanks, but will now have to look elsewhere as Griezmann closes in on a £24m move to the Spanish champions.
