With the shock news yesterday that Loic Remy’s proposed move from Queens Park Rangers to Liverpool was called off at the last minute due to a failed medical, CaughtOffside now looks at five other clubs who could enter the running for the prolific French international.

Despite whatever medical conditions that dissuaded the Reds from finalising his £8.5m move to Anfield, he remains one of the best strikers in the Premier League, and is a potential bargain for that transfer fee, due to a release clause in his contract.

The former Marseille star will surely not remain at Loftus Road after seeking a move to a bigger club in order to play in the Champions League, and we can think of plenty of teams who would benefit from snapping him up this summer.

5) Newcastle United

Having spent last season on loan at Newcastle United, Loic Remy could be welcomed back with open arms to St James’ Park, with his impressive goalscoring displays seeing him become a firm favourite with the club’s fans. The Magpies cannot offer Remy European football, however, and have reportedly already failed in their efforts to sign him this summer. Still, with his move to Liverpool falling through, it may be worth another try from Alan Pardew.

4) Arsenal

Arsenal were strongly linked with Remy earlier this summer and for some time looked the favourites to sign him due to his desire to move to the Emirates Stadium. It remains to be seen if the Gunners will revive their interest in him now with news of his failed medical, but it could be a gamble worth taking for the club as they need a genuine alternative to Olivier Giroud to compete for the lone striker role in the side.

3) Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Remy in the past as well, and a move to rekindle their interest in the 27-year-old would certainly make sense now as he looks to have become available again. New Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has inherited a side without a great deal of quality upfront after a mixed campaign from Emmanuel Adebayor last term, and a disastrous one from £27m signing Roberto Soldado. Remy would be a terrific option available on the cheap, and would certainly add a new goal threat to the side if he joined the ranks at White Hart Lane.

2) Everton

With Everton known to be chasing the permanent signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea after his highly successful loan spell at Goodison Park last season, Remy could now emerge as a more sensible option for the Toffees. A similarly prolific Premier League goalscorer, Remy would be available for around half the price of Lukaku, and could be a smart swoop for Everton manager Roberto Martinez. This move would also have the added boost of angering Liverpool fans greatly if he did become a success in the blue half of Merseyside.

1) Chelsea

A surprise option perhaps, but Chelsea are arguably still in need of improvements upfront despite bringing in both Diego Costa and the returning club legend Didier Drogba this summer. With Demba Ba leaving, and the misfiring Fernando Torres and unsettled Romelu Lukaku possibly set to follow, Remy would be a great option to rotate with Costa and Drogba upfront, giving Jose Mourinho three highly reliable and proven strikers to compete for that lone spot in the side. Although Chelsea are known for splashing out big money on more glamorous names, Remy would certainly be a smart move for the Blues as they look to improve on what has been their problem position for some time.
